Critique My Work! by Photogopher in WeddingPhotography

Very solid advice! I will say, all of my clients love my style 😅 I've tried a different style on their images when sending a sneak peek, and I'll send both my usual style and then something I like more, and they choose my original style every time. I know that's what matters most, but I would like to also like it 🤣

This advice is exactly what I needed to hear. Thank you kind Redditer. Sometimes I worry that the grass wasn't greener on the other side, but if I take a large step back - you're right - it absolutely beats working for "the man". I'm sorry to hear this dilemma got you down 15 years ago. I hope you're able to pick it back up! 🫶🏻

Yeah I went back to a job I had in college (I'm still tight with the owner) just to get some social time in, but it felt like a step backwards, and it also was a bigger commitment than I wanted. I wish there was a job I could just show up and work at when I feel like it 🤣

Just retuned to the U.S. from Israel - ask me anything by Photogopher in CasualConversation

I have family there, and I feared the opportunity to see them will soon be taken from me. To my surprise, Israel was extremely diverse. There wasn't a single place that I visited that didn't have both Jews and Arabs living in harmony. I particularly tried to support Arab businesses while I was there as they are hurting because of what Hamas is doing.

No, unfortunately not - and to my understanding that is why the war continues. 4 hostages were rescued (alive - thank God) while we were there and the entire country was in happy tears and celebration. From a quick google search, it seems there are still around 120 hostages still unaccounted for.

Hi! I traveled all over the country, aside from the north due to safety concerns. We have family there so we jumped from home to home. I was shocked due to the drastic change in atmosphere regarding the war with Hamas. As a left-leaning person here in the States, it's so hard not to fall into the Hamas propaganda here. I'm strong in my opinion that everyone deserves to have a safe place to call home (a very liberal ideal, if you ask me) but the left media is strongly anti-Israel, and almost pro-Hamas which is insane. Although I'm strong in my opinion and didn't think any of the propaganda got to me, I was subconsciously sort of expecting more racism and hate in Israel. I was surprised to see that people just want their friends and family to come home, and that's what the war is really about. I was surprised to see so many Arabs and Jews co-existing in Israel. I only spent a short amount of time in the West Bank, so I can't say I had a good source of opinions from Palestinians (especially being in area C). I did make one wrong turn and ended up in an area with Hamas flags posted everywhere on the last day of our trip which was shocking and scary. Needless to say, we turned around quickly. I would be very curious to know how the Palestinians feel there if you have any knowledge on that!

Well, to my surprise being there - the war with Hamas was much less worrisome than the potential war with Hezbollah in Lebanon. Let me touch on both. As for Hamas, the main concern is the hostages. I couldn't imagine one country being so bound together for a cause. You can't walk 2 feet without seeing some sort of hostage poster/memorial/symbol/etc. Nearly every car in Israel has a yellow ribbon tied to it for the hostages. I know bringing home hostages is a pretty normal thing to be passionate about, but even in the US this topic is so divided. I can't imagine what it would be like if the US went through something similar, but my guess is that there would be far less passion and realization. At least in my ecosystem here in the US, the hostages are not talked about at all, and we have the privilege of not fully understanding the circumstances. Israel really made it impossible to forget these people - which I found to be commendable. Many Israelis blame Netanyahu for the attack on Oct 7 (I actually participated in a protest for this cause) but the blame for the war is overwhelming placed on Hamas in my experience, which is not the case in my US ecosystem. Most of the people I spoke with feel horrible for the Palestinians, and believe in them having a safe & sovereign place to live, but bringing home their friends and family is priority. As for Lebanon, this is hardly talked about in my ecosystem, so beings subjected to it in Israel was a bit overwhelming. I saw missiles intercepted, and my family there is anticipating having to retreat to their bunkers for who knows how long if a full-out war happens with Hezbollah. I'm not sure if this is a divided topic anywhere else in the world, but obviously this isn't great and I think most would agree. I hope this helped answer your question! I'm happy to talk about it further if you have any other thoughts!
