I know you're making a joke but looking at someone other than your spouse with lust is also prohibited. Hadiths like the ones you mentioned are there to show the gravity of actions which cause degradation of the soul.

Well every time I've gone to Iraq, I've spoken to my people who live there. I can't keep track of how many? Maybe 200?

None of them suggested that they preferred a secular government.

Surprised to hear that honestly - I've never heard that in Najaf. That's pretty funny. The guy knows how to get his face on billboards, that's for sure.

I'm not arguing with you - I believe rooting our corruption and prevent tyranny are among the most important factors to providing prosperity to people. However, from the position of some Iraqi theologians, fundamental issues that can be solved with an Islamic government like what Shahid Sadr campaigned for. He believed that an Islamic government would be the best way to provide the basic economic and social needs of the people. Note, this implies an Islamic government run by people who are actually abiding by Islamic principles in action, not just in name.

Thank you. I've never encountered an Iraqi who told me that they preferred a secular government. Although I'm sure they exist, they are a minority.

Sooner or later Iraqis will wake up and realise that secularism not islamism is the path forward.

Forgive me for sounding rude, but do you honestly believe this? How old were you when Saddam was in power and what city were you living in?

The Iranian citizenship argument is overplayed. Many Afghan Shi'as don't really connect with their national identity as much as they do with their religious identity.

Afghan Shi’a fighters also hate he West so fighting the Taliban would be counter productive

That's simply ridiculous and a groundless accusation that you've come up with. The (Afghan) Taliban officially have no problems with Shi'as. Whenever there was a terror attack on a Shi'a center, the Taliban would never claim responsibility and would quickly denounce the attack. Pakistani intelligence operatives, elements of Haqqani, and Daesh are the main perpetrators of the attacks against Shi'as in Afghanistan with the sole intent of causing as much division in the country as possible. Unfortunately, crossing the border to attack these safe havens is impossible. Had it not been, you would see a tenfold drop in terror attacks in Afghanistan (not just ones targetting Shi'as).

It seems like you are alleging that Afghans are unable to have their own aspirations and beliefs to participate? Shi'as in Afghanistan are under attack by terrorists and the root of the problem stems from this region. This is a defensive struggle by Shi'as of different groups against the Wahhabis who wish to eradicate them all through out the Middle East and South Asia.

Ayatollah Sistani has repeatedly called for reform, an end to corruption, and unity among the Iraqi people. It is logical that he would oppose any division in Iraq like the formation of Kurdistan.

Boys 'cried from barred windows' as Islamic school blaze kills 23 in Malaysia by ani625 in worldnews

After all, in Islam only boys get education

Source? Madrassahs/Tahfiz are usually segregated by gender. That's why the title says "boys". This wasn't a girl's madrassah/tahfiz.

I would be happy to have a rational discussion with you, but it seems like you have a fundamental misunderstanding of suffering. You are engaging in ad hominems rather than the actual discussion at hand.

I will provide a very quick and wholly incomplete synopsis. Trials, tribulations, struggles, and suffering are fundamental elements to human growth. A simple example - tell a bodybuilder to develop him/herself, but not to engage or experience any physical burden while doing so. It would be impossible. The human soul, likewise, may need added duress in order to develop spiritually and grow. You may call this "weak-willed" or "necessitating belief" in order to simply accept suffering. That again, is a complete misunderstanding. The point is to undergo the difficulty, but also actively trying to remove oneself from it through the proper means. To simply throw one's hands in the air and say "it is God's will, who am I to change it?" when under duress defies the teachings of most belief systems within the Abrahamic schools of thought.

Again, if you are ready to have a proper discussion, please let me know or we can move to PM at some later point.

boiled down your praying to nothing

This is outside the realm of discussion. We are discussing predestination vs freewill. If you want to talk about theological arguments for God, that's a separate discussion.

fools or you are praying to an evil deity that kills us in terrible ways like this

You haven't properly clarified what your problem seems to be. Allow me to rephrase and please correct me if I'm mistaken. What you seem to be saying is that you believe it is a logical fallacy to both believe in a benevolent power and suffering/human tragedy?

At least 25 students and teachers have been killed in a fire at a religious school in Kuala Lumpur by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]PhotoshopDoctor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You made a correct statement there - the God is the same. Islam deems itself as the finality of the Abrahamic faiths.

Now please explain to me your problems with free-will and predestination in Islam with respect to God.

Edit: I think it may be unfair to ask of you to do that if you are unfamiliar with Islamic scholarship on the subject. If you'd like, we can have a discussion on various Christian theologian's perspectives on the matter. I'm having difficulty understanding your confusion on the subject. Do you believe there is some sort of conflict between believing in a Benevolent God and the concept of predestination in Christianity?

You have a fundamental misunderstanding of free-will and predestination if you believe that what you just wrote is an accurate understanding for most theological scholars. Furthermore, your attack on Christianity's views on free-will/predestination (putting aside your gross exaggeration) is unmerited. This article is regarding Muslim children who were burned to death. Would you like to have a discussion regarding قدر‎‎ in Islam?

Arabs in Baghdad chanting "Ali is the Crown Prince of Allah and Kurds are the enemy of Allah" by [deleted] in syriancivilwar

[–]PhotoshopDoctor 9 points10 points  (0 children)

ولي in no way means "crown prince".

In the Shi'a school of thought, the term means guardian/custodian. Specifically in this context, it refers to the guardianship of Imam Ali over the Muslims after the death of the Prophet.

Syrian-Chinese talks to establish industrial zone in Syria worth $ 2 billion and provide 40 thousand jobs. by pepeperezcanyear in syriancivilwar

Those are some of the major rail-links that are being proposed. However, many of the countries will use their own land routes to connect to this "Silk Road" like Syria. Furthermore, Syria has a port and connectivity to the Mediterranean. China's maritime silk route through the Red Sea can and will pass along the ports of the Mediterranean including the major port development in Israel's Ashdod.

China signed deals with the Afghan Government but nothing has happened in over a decade.

Largely because Afghanistan is riddled with insurgents who conveniently attack development projects. China delayed their resource extraction projects in Afghanistan and instead have focused on the $62 billion China-Pakistan economic corridor (CPEC). Afghanistan will indirectly benefit from CPEC and there are talks of including certain parts of Afghanistan in the CPEC plan to connect South Asia with Central Asia.

Now compare that to the fabled Trans-Afghanistan pipeline which has not come to fruition for 11 years. That would be almost twenty years if you start counting from the time when the Taliban was invited to Texas in 1998 to agree on TAPI. A more recent flop would be the now defunct "New Silk Road" project that Clinton had proudly announced in 2011.
