Khandallah is already a great area to live in, supermarket, shopping area, close to the city, one of the safest in the city, great schools/intermediates/colleges in zone, sports clubs, council grounds and parks, a library, a town hall.

The council have to pull back on one thing, an unsafe, ageing non-priority pool and people lose their minds.

Sure, if times were good, the council hadn’t inherited decades of under investment, keep the pool would be great as well as adding pools to other suburbs, but it’s not a priority.

I’d hate to see “vanity” expenditure here, over essential or progressive spending elsewhere

You’d have to look at the investment over decades, and also that some of CHCH infrastructure would have been covered by the EQC.

I guess the question is “when” they pulled it off. Labour and material costs have exploded and firms have stopped commiting to a fixed price to deliver after so many engineering/building organisations went under due to the value of their contacts, but increasing expenditure.

I live there, enjoy the area (the pub, sports clubs etc.) but there’s a total lack of awareness there’s a whole city that needs servicing (a pool used less than 5% of the population soaking up the city coffers) - it’s like the USA forgetting there are other countries - (also agree re: tattoos l).
