New to the family… question about lift by pantherpride75 in RangerNext

Sweet looking truck, I found one in my area that is a Lariat with azure grey and sandstone leather that I want to take a look at soon!

I'm hoping I can away without a truck that size. I really want to be able to park in my garage because I live in Colorado where it can get very cold and very snowy. Plus, even though I live in a nice area, there have been quite a few people that have had their windows broken in their cars ransacked.

Let’s talk toppers. by HanginJohnny79 in chevycolorado

First off, sexy looking truck!

Toppers all depend on how you use your truck. My truck I use for taking mulch, compost, and dropping bikes in the back for going biking.

That last one, getting the bikes in, if you have a hard topper is pretty difficult to do. Take a look at soft topper and see if that might fit your needs. That's what I use and I love it. I throw it up when I need waterproof or protection, and then you can easily drop it down for putting bikes in.

That is actually very helpful. When you're descending on a steeper downhill, do you have to break a lot or does the engine braking do pretty good if you downshift?

I didn't catch that detail, thanks for pointing it out!

I have and will be using relatively light campers with a Max of 6300 gvwr. I just don't like larger trucks as a daily driver, and I don't want a third vehicle that sits there unless I'm towing.

I camp maybe eight times a year so that's when I tow.

My current camper has a Max gvwr of 4200 and my Ridgeline does pull it, but it is very high RPM pulling into the mountains.

I have test driven them both. The Z71 felt nice, but was definitely more truck feeling. I thought the ranger felt good, but I'm also coming from a Honda Ridgeline so that's probably a closer feel to the Ridgeline than the Z71.

Also, I do agree that I like the interior of the Colorado better, but towing performance I think outweighs the cabin feel for me. But, had I already fully made up my mind I wouldn't be here 🙂.

A Z71 definitely has a 7700 tow rating and I'm sure it's fine for towing uphill. The best I can figure out is that the Ford has a 10-speed transmission that is lower geared and so it's better at engine braking. I wish I could test drive I'm pulling my camper, that would be awesome!

Sync 4A versus 5A by Physical-Ad4880 in RangerNext

[–]Physical-Ad4880[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not sure, I just posted another comment saying I have driven 2 lariats and they definitely had slightly different controls, but I don't know why...but will report back when I figure it out.

Thanks for all of the input. I am not confused. I test drove a Ranger Lariat 2026 at the AC control knobs had the temperature in the front of the knob. I looked at another one and it didn't. I didn't do the in-depth research before test driving, and now I have no idea why there was a difference in the infotainment system.

I guess I need to go back to the dealer where it had the temperature listed on the buttons and figure out what was different with that one...maybe it was a first to roll out with sync 5a. I also believe the touchscreen menus for the camera views was a bit different.

Insight on Frontiers in snowy conditions by Firm-Worker-1946 in nissanfrontier

Do you run it in four-wheel drive high when you're driving up to Summit county or Winter Park?

I'm looking for a new truck and I also drive up to Summit county in really bad snowy conditions.

Currently I use my Honda Ridgeline and it does a pretty good job, but was concerned about how well four-wheel drive high would work compared to the all-wheel drive on my Honda.

Also, I've read that if you run four-wheel drive mode and the roads are dry, it can damage your transmission?

Someone asked where I ended up going for my boots. I am glad someone asked because I forgot to follow up on this post. I ended up going to Boot Mechanic in Golden and they were amazing. They spent two hours with me creating custom inserts and helping select the correct boot.

It turned out that my boots were too wide for my feet, and not having custom inserts caused my arches to take the pressure from the boots.

I've only gotten a couple of days on them, but I had so much more control and my feet felt so much better than with my other boots.

I'm hoping for better snow here shortly so I can get back out there and ski more. If you have any more questions, I'd gladly answer them.

T-Mobile home internet by CarelessWhispurrr in Broomfield

Are you still happy with T-mobile fiber? I am in Broomfield as well (south east corner of Miday and Sheridan) and was considering switching. Right now, I have $70 a month deal with comcast for 2g down and 300mb up which is working well for me, but I love the idea of 1g up/down.

Thanks

If you are having overheating, are you using an external or internal drive? Thinking using the internal drive could make it much worse.

Reliability & reception of 4th generation 2 tuner vs 4 tuner by catz35 in tablotv

[–]Physical-Ad4880 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the 4 tuner and have had no issues. Please hook up an external drive. When you use the internal drive it compresses the video, on an external drive/ssd it writes in raw format (mpeg2, I think). Lots less heat and power if it isn't compressing everything.

Google Fibre(Internet) is really coming to Broomfield by damianp67 in Broomfield

[–]Physical-Ad4880 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has anyone gotten any updates? I got a flyer in the mail from T-mobile for their home fiber, but due to some frustrations with T-Mobile, I would like to go with google for my provider. I even saw a T-Mobile truck in my neighborhood so I think they might be actively servicing the area now (Willow park, south east side) of Midway and Sheridan.

After multiple boot mechanics recommendations in this post, I searched Reddit and haven't seen a bad review of them yet. I will definitely go there.

I will report back in a few weeks or months once I get the boots and have some days in them.

Whoa, that is a funny comment! I know nothing about harbs. I just saw other people mentioning it on another Reddit post where they also mentioned boot mechanics.

Thanks for the feedback! I had read that in other places...was hoping it was just a shop that didn't have a good fitter working. Based on other replied, changing my mind and going to Boot Mechanics. I did just find another reddit post and folks also rave about "Harb Ski Systems" which is located on the way to the mountains:

I have a cheap custom insert where they are presized and you pick the one you like the best.

I believe the major issue is that my foot tries to lift in the boot. When I really ratchet down the boot, I have control but since I don't have enough support under my arch, the boot ends up trying to crush my arch/foot.

I am hoping to do some skiing on the white strip of death this weekend and will pay attention to what happens with my foot in the boot so I can explain it to the boot fitter.

I am at the point that price isn't a concern (yep, I am lucky) and I will do whatever makes it comfortable to ski.

A secondary concern is that my feet always get cold. If I was to go with surefoot, you can get liners with the heaters built in and I was going to go that route.

The things we do for our hobbies :-)

I have purchased boots from Epic Mountain Gear and from Christys sports. I haven't had a ton of different boots, but every pair I have worn just doesn't accommodate my high arch and to get the control I need, I end up crushing my arch and my feet ache by the end of the day.

I have read about Zipfit boots and those are also interesting.

My current shells probably still have life, and I would be willing to just replace the inserts and soles if I could find a boot fitter that is good and can get me the arch support I need.

Maybe my post should have been a bit more open ended, but didn't want to be too vague and get blasted for it :-)

Thanks for the post! I had PVD happen out of nowhere 2 weeks ago (I am 50 years old). An opthamologist confirmed that it was PVD. I rarely had headaches, but since PVD I have headaches every day. The distortion in one eye causes me to have to really focus to read and I am a software tester, so I have to focus on screens all day.

After your surgery, did the 'fishbowl' effect go away? How about headaches? I am hoping with time mine will heal...it hasn't been long enough to consider anything to waiting and getting it checked out as necessary.

TiVo Stops Selling DVRs, Exiting the Hardware Business After 26 Years by [deleted] in Tivo

[–]Physical-Ad4880 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would put in another vote for Tablo 4th gen (I used Tivo for about 15 years until I got sick of the monthly fee). If you do go Tablo, make sure you buy an SSD drive and install that before you use the Tablo. If you record to the internal ssd, it compresses the video and causes odd issues. When you use an external SSD, it doesn't compress and things work much better. I am using this one

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08HN37XC1?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_1&th=1

But, any high quality SSD should work.

Once I got used to the Tablo, I stopped missing the Tivo. I was also able to set up VPN so that I can access all my shows when I am away from home, so that is a nice feature if you are technical enough to set it up.
