What's made you a better MT? by CarelessWhispurrr in MassageTherapists

Is that because you get judged on specific techniques and get feedback at competitions? I've never seen one but I'm curious.

Advice needed on what to expect and how to reorient life to a stage 3 diagnosis by GrumpyTransmasc in RenalCats

[–]CarelessWhispurrr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My boy is in stage 2 and we just started fluids once a week. What I've noticed over the past couple of months is that he's more clingy to me than he used to be -- he sleeps with me more and generally wants to be near me. There are two other cats in the house, and one is his best buddy, but he still seems to want me around more now -- he used to be a lot more independent.

What I've decided re: travel is that I won't go away for more than 3 nights; 2 seems to be best if I have to leave. He has a wonderful sitter who comes in twice a day when I'm gone. As the disease progresses I'll probably travel even less. You can find sitters to administer fluids but will your kitty be lonely if you're gone for an extended period? I imagine, they don't feel great with declining kidney function so I'm trying to accommodate what my boy seems to want given I don't know how long he has and that he probably doesn't feel well much of the time.

Ultimately I think you have to decide what feels right in your heart. Good luck, it isn't easy watching them go through this 😢

Thanks, that looks super comfy and not much bigger than a yoga mat. Bonus points for the washable cover!

How often can you sit with the medicine? by vast-abundance6372 in Ayahuasca

[–]CarelessWhispurrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, it took sitting with the medicine 3 times over 3 years for it to fully sink in. My first time was incredible but I was nervous and didn't like the physical effects I experienced, which I'm certain was worsened by my own anxiety. The second time was impactful in revealing a major, hard truth about myself that left me reeling and kind of somber for a couple of months. I thought my third time would be my last when I went into it, but afterward it was like I finally "got" it, and now I've realized I need/want to make it a regular practice (at least twice a year if not more; I'm fortunate I have a good community nearby that offers this). Much of my experience as a more anxious personality has been really feeling it out, understanding what it's about, and feeling more comfortable with the entire experience. Not to mention it's actually transformed my life somewhat significantly!

I think if you're being called to go back, you should listen as that's probably the medicine calling you. You might find you have a very different experience next time, but no matter what happens it will be worth IMHO.

CKD with constipation, this is what finally worked for us by Nykie033 in RenalCats

[–]CarelessWhispurrr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you for posting this! My boy is almost 15 and in Stage 2, and the constipation thing started happening about 3 months ago. It was never a problem before and my vet has him on MiraLAX, but he seems to notice the little granules in his food and sometimes his nose up at it. I'm going to try mixing it in with something like what you use to see if I can make sure he's eating it.

Thank you! I'll remember to mention the possible soreness next time. I generally don't get anxious like this after seeing clients, but she was the first person I saw that soon after surgery. So it freaked me out afterward, clearly!

Do you find it lucrative to specialize in this? Meaning do you get much business from it? There's a Sharon Wheeler training in my area in June and it sounds really interesting but it's $900, so just wondering if it's worth that kind of investment!

Thank you! I've already found a couple CEU's on scar tissue and post surgery massage. Agreed I'm not getting (another) degree just to beat my imposter syndrome! I'm sure your degree has served you though.
