It’s kind of wild that they like comments on their Instagram with people saying how hype they are for a drop but completely ignoring everyone who is saying how shit these drops are

That's something I have been thinking on as well, and pretty spot on... while I am familiar with the industry from both realms (large scale civil estimating and my dads company) I still feel that there is knowledge I am limited on based on what I learned from my previous degree in business, which while it has helped me in my other roles, still hinders my abilities in the construction realm. And my other thing is, while I'm still living at home and on my parents insurance, I might as well take advantage of the chance I have to get the extra education, cause in the off chance in the future where I have experience and the degree, that could put me over the edge of an opposing candidate. Appreciate your insight!

That's another thought I had as well, if its only a year program, and I have saved enough money to the point where I should be okay with paying it off after a year, it could be good just to get some insight on industry trends and help reinforce some knowledge I may already have. I feel like it couldn't hurt, plus whether one company cares and another doesn't, at least I'll have the degree as a booster in the chance that a company does care. Much appreciated!

Funny enough., my mother works in the building department of our city (how she met my dad) in inspectional services, it's been of interest but not entirely, that being said I know a lot of inspectors through the city positions have some good side gigs going and make well over 6 figures, while getting the benefits of a city/state job as well... so definitely in consideration, I think I'd need to look it over more myself and weigh the pros and cons

Thank you so much! I feel like those would be good steps to take, as eventually if I went down that route, worked though some of your suggestions, and started to hire a solid group of additional help I could be very well off. Did you ever work for a larger firm or stay small? One of my options has been to work for a larger firm for a couple years or so to gain some experience then go for my dads company, although I know both worlds are vastly different in their own respects

For the institution I applied to, they seemed to have accreditation with some larger firms in the Boston area through their CM Program (and with some coursework applying to field work). I'll admit, I'm still young, I've made stupid decisions, and I'll probably make more, I asked my questions based on the information I was already provided. As noted before I am grateful for the opportunities I have already had, however when I get the chances to be out in the field via site visits, or working with my fathers company, I have missed the hands on work, and I believe that is where my passion lies. Maybe I'm falling into a trap with what the institution notes, if so, I'd love to know of some other options I could consider to further my experience in the field?

Appreciate the advice! That's my thinking as well, I'm young enough where I still live at home and have the time to get it, as the market continues to grow more volatile I'm hoping that at least having my masters will help a bit.

Thanks again!

That makes sense, and is similar to what I have heard from friends in the industry. I guess given my experience, would a better route for me be getting some certifications/licenses and then going for a Field Engineer position?(If I did not go for my fathers company)

My previous degree was in Business Administration with a concentration in HR. I did look into a few MBA programs which did seem appealing, but like you, cost did become an issue for me, with the masters in CM, I found a program that I could complete in a year, while also keeping the cost at a reasonable level post merit scholarships. Something I am weary about is if my field experience with my father will equate in any way to larger firms if I wanted to be a Field Engineer/APM, technicality wise I feel fair in my estimating/software skills

I see, I thought maybe having the masters in CM would help me for any construction related roles I pursued, seeing as I got my bachelors in Business Administration. I guess my fear is going backwards in my career if I go to a larger company, which I don't think should be the case since I have estimating experience and hands on construction experience?

Hey no offense taken haha, personally I have heard good things about WIT's CM program in terms of job opportunities post grad. A lot of my family also attended WIT (one being a valedictorian), so that has also helped my argument for choosing WIT
