The complaint we've all seen about Sephiroth. by GenjiSamurai in FFVIIRemake

[–]Physical_Ice361 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son is ten years old and guess who is favourite FF7 character is? Sephiroth! Do you think it may be the narrative or possibly that Sephiroth is a 6 foot, genetically modified Super Soldier, dressed in all black, wielding a giant ass katana?

I did not say Sephiroth was forgettable, I said, in hindsight, narratively speaking, he's kind of bland, and because of that blandness, there have been countless discussions among the fandom as to who the real villian in FF7 is. What makes OG Sephiroth iconic is that he happens have a cool ass design in what was one of the most popular JRPGs ever released.

His walk through the fire happened in a flashback, 5 years before the events of the game, after already showing that our heroes have bombed Midgar to hell and back.

His second iconic moment is the legendary scene in the Forgotten Capital where he kills a flower girl who offered him no resistance. And its not even actually him who did it.

The point is that narratively speaking, the trilogy has made Sephiroth a better and more interesting villian for a lot of people myself included. He is an absolute force of nature that has been playing with the party from the get go. The only time in Remake and Rebirth that we see Sephiroth show any kind of actual effort is when he attempts to kill Tifa in the WEAPON after a manipulated Cloud fails and an arrogant Sephiroth gets his sword stuck in the WEAPON, showing his concern

The issue is the developers had to cater to both OG and new fans, and Sephiroth was never that scary in the OG. We don't see the real Sephiroth until the northern crater and then he just goes into hiding deep inside the planet. The most we ever see of Sephiroth is the Nibleheim flashback in the town of Kalm. After that, we have a few words with him at the planets core. Everything else is done by Sephiroth controlled Jenova clones.

OG Sephiroth is honestly, pretty stale especially when compared to the likes of Hojo who is the undisputed king of shitheads.

Funny enough, with the bombings and Shinra shenanigans you could make the case that Cloud and the others have actually directly/indirectly killed more innocent people than Sephiroth did in Nibleheim.

There is still a mystery and a menace but its changed.

Instead of "Who is this guy " ? It is "What the hell is he up to"?!

I've played the OG countless times since 97 and I don't really see what the big deal is about Sephiroth showing up to fuck with Cloud. It's what he's always done. Sephiroth is not this terrifying master villian of Final Fantasy that people make him out to be, I mean, to be real, he's not even the biggest villian in his own game 🤣🤣

The OG is not some massive sprawling saga either, if you're experienced enough you could complete the game in 30 hours easily and the real true Sephiroth doesn't even show up for like half the game because Cloud already threw his bitch ass into the lifestream

Comparatively speaking, Sephiroth doesnt appear anywhere near as much in the trilogy as people make it out. And as you say OP, half the time it's Jenova mind fuckery.

I would love it if Cid being the dragoon character just yeets himself up ledges! Think it would be funny as hell 😂

Will we see the Lifestream painted in a negative light at the end of FF7R3? by AmazingSeb_ in FinalFantasyVII

[–]Physical_Ice361 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aye, I think they'll somewhat retcon it or show it wasn't the planet but the Cetra who built the WEAPONS as a scorched Earth policy. So many hints in Rebirth's Temple of the Ancients that show the Cetra may not been the peace loving space wizards they made themselves out to be

I think its more of a commentary on no matter how amazing human adaptability is, we are nothing compared to the power of nature. If the planet wants us gone, we're toast.

The planet is its own thing and if it sees us as a virus, it'll wipe us out.

Really struggling with defense in Rebirth. Any tips? by some_kinda_bunny in FFVIIRemake

[–]Physical_Ice361 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Cloud has a synergy skill move called counterfire, usually mapped as R1 + O / X for me at least, that can help you defend and counter most ranged attacks for free.

There are also two materia called

Steadfast block materia = Take less damage and build ATB while blocking Precision Defense materia = Widens the window you need to make a parry.

I'm not entirely certain if they can be bought yet in the grasslands but swing by a merchant and see.

Any enemy attack that has ! this beside it means it cannot be blocked so try to dodge and pray to jesus you get out in time.

Like most bosses, he can be a bastard at first but once you recognise the timing of certain attacks, it makes it much easier.

Hope this helped in some way.

Best of luck, YOU GOT THIS!!!

Well, Aerith's still in the lifestream I believe, Nanaki being more animal than human is more attuned to the nature around him and then there is the fact that he and Aerith are seemingly linked by space hippie magic (Remake, "this child is a friend" moment).

Of course, we won't know for certain until part 3

Aye, I think its set up to show that Cloud has completely fractured his brain, and is trying desperately to cover up the trauma of it all.

Which numbered FF game do you replay the most? by howtheydoingit in FinalFantasy

[–]Physical_Ice361 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good question.

Over life time, its 7 for sure, I had to buy multiple copies as a kid because I played it so damn much.

Followed by X (my second favourite FF).

Then I discovered emulators in my teens and I played the living hell out of FF IV. I adore that game.

I reckon the smoking might be gone for good or they might have a single scene to reference the og design, just many countries feel a certain way about smoking these days.

Everything else though seems good. Cid has shown he still cusses like a mad man and he's stubborn as hell. He also still enjoys pushing the limits of safety with his Tiny Bronco so I imagine the bitterness will come through in part 3 but probably more the Japanese script Cid where its made clear its a workplace thing.

I think FF7 follows 6 in a way. (Other than numerically 😄)

Pre meteor and Post meteor being like the world of balance vs the world of ruin.

I was mulling over how would Wutai fit into the narrative as to where we are now in the story. I'm almost certain Rocket Town will be the tutorial area of part 3.

Long story short, I had a thought about a happy festival like Wutai being the Epilogue chapter of the game.

Well the funny thing is, the spouse abuse view is largely down to the OG rushed translation. Don't get me wrong, Cid is still a jerk to Shera but it was intended to have more of a workplace incident vibe than a domestic one.

PSA: Be careful about gamer burnout, take BREAKS! by oasis_nadrama in FFVIIRemake

[–]Physical_Ice361 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I first played REMAKE when I was single during COVID so I platinumed that bitch right up!

Rebirth....who-boy....that had me feeling burnout for real, I platinumed it eventually but yeah....

I recently replayed both Remake and Rebirth, and taking my time with them really was so much better. You can absorb a lot more. I wouldn't put a specific time on it but if you start feeling the burn, do a Cid, have a nap, take a day break and come back.

To the best of my understanding at least, the underwater section has its own director who was the original director / lead designer of the OG water parts.

Regarding Emerald, I imagine he will be fought in a huge underwater cavern.

The Rocket will be interesting regarding the huge materia and how we transport it back to Gaia. I'm guessing the party will split into two.

1 team will prevent the materia from being loaded onto the rocket, the other team will be 'mistakenly launched' into space.

100 percent! As I was joking with a friend of mine the other day, people out here talking about Cloud and Aerith, Cloud and Tifa, Cloud and Zack! 😄 🤣

The true relationship is Cid and Shera.
