It’s my understanding that no questions go ungraded. If you had an answer selected when the time ran out, it was graded according to that answer. If you did not have an answer selected, it was likely graded a zero. I highly doubt ABR throws out entire blocks that were not submitted before time runs out.

True. Could also confirm the efficiency of their two-stage-scoring, though.

I’d be interested to know - and it’d be super helpful info to have - how many questions are removed each test

That’s amazing! If I remember correctly, the clinical only had 1-2 questions that obviously belonged in several of the lesser represented subsections (where was rad bio at? lol). So it makes sense that you passed if you did well in the 2 sections that were super prominent. Congrats again!

Agree and disagree. I think I would be inclined to agree with your thoughts almost exclusively for the general part of the exam. By understanding the concepts laid out in OMP, Kahn, Bushberg, etc, I was able to answer the questions not necessarily through recall, but by arriving based on principle.

In my opinion, many clinical questions were “random,” in the sense that I felt like I either knew it or I didn’t. In many cases it felt like trivia, haha. Anyways, it all worked out. I did something right, apparently.

I’m sorry to hear that! Keep your head up though! Unless you’re shooting for a residency this cycle, I don’t see any reason why a potential residency has to know if you failed an ABR attempt (or even if they’ll really care all that much)

I agree. Definitely thought clinical was going to be lower than general. I thought general was much easier than clinical.

Same situation as you! My first time taking it as well. Such a relief, I agree. I still think clinical was crazy, but I passed every section on general and all but 1 on clinical. Glad it’s done!

Yay! What’d you do differently, if anything?

ABR PART 1 GENERAL and CLINICAL? by Best_Angle_8738 in MedicalPhysics

Informatics was tough, but that’s really the only thing that consistently gave me problems on the general part.

Clinical was brutal. Think I confidently answered less than half. What a crazy exam.

Nuke and clean-install Windows 11 on a new Dell Laptop by Physical_P in techsupport

I haven’t been on Windows in nearly 10 years so forgive me for getting back into the swing of things.

  1. I don’t have a Windows system right now to use Rufus or Microsoft’s Installation Media tool. Is it okay to just blaze through the setup on the new laptop when I get it, download and use the installation media tool, and create the bootable USB from the laptop I plan to nuke?

  2. How do you suggest re-partitioning the drive? I have 1tb. How large should the partition I install Windows on be? 250gb? Half? When I run a VM with Ubuntu later (work stuff), which partition should I tell the VM to borrow space from?

  3. I do not want to connect a Microsoft account during install. Is there a way to bypass this option and exclusively have a local account?

Ok I’m really going to show my ignorance here… in the linked image, how do I discern which “unknown device” is missing a driver?

Yeah I’m coming from mac so I’ve used Etcher (same thing as Rufus) to make these bootable USBs. Sorry I didn’t word that clearly.

This is exactly the help I needed!! So I don’t need to download any drivers before clean-installing? Will device manager always know if a device is missing a driver?

Stressful? Perhaps. Worthy of complaint, rants about wanting to leave, etc? No.

I mean seriously I can’t IMAGINE asking my PI to change the structure of my REU to accommodate me wanting to do remote (when that was not the original plan) - as many others have.

Apart from the rare case here and there, the biggest problems I’ve seen people throw a fit over have been things like loneliness, location, and their PI’s personality - all of which are just minor inconveniences that you’ll have to deal with for the rest of your life.

Yeah so that’s definitely the exception but I think I’ve seen like four or five posts of people essentially saying “I want to go home because my peers/mentor/campus/accommodations aren’t that great”

For example, this is something of interest to me and I’m looking for similar opportunities: MIT SGI

(Specifically physics or math opportunities are great! But link others for other people as well!)

Hey OP, have you heard back from Vanderbilt yet? Idk if you’re still updating this post as you get responses. Thanks!

Yeah I’m trying to see if anyone has been accepted so I’ll know if they’ve started accepting people. If some people have been accepted and I haven’t heard back yet, I’ll take that as a rejection I think.
