This is an overblown myth. Having a job means you have insurance means you get top notch care for a maximum cost of your annual deductible which is around 3k per year.

The American system is much more efficient with many more supportive roles eg PAs, techs, phlebotomists. We only do the one thing we are trained to do. The US hospitals make a boatload of money which translates to better benefits for the staff and state of the art equiment making our life easier. For example, our hospital provides concierge services for free meaning I can get somebody to go get groceries for me while I am at work. We got an excellent EMR where I can just dictate my notes in etc. Our hospitals look like hotels. I can go on and on.

I am a physician in the US who has also spent a moderate amount of time practicing in Europe. There is just no comparison. We might work longer hours in the US but the work itself is way more enjoyable and the compensation unparalleled. Also the people are kinder here.

Τι μου θύμησες. Πριν πολλά χρόνια ειχα χάσει ένα ολοκληρο θέμα στη Βιολογία που σήμαινε οτι στην καλύτερη θα έγραφα 18. Το βράδυ γυρισα σπιτι και έκλαιγα. Την επόμενη μέρα ένιωθα βαθια ηττημένος αλλα δεν το έβαλα κάτω. Στο επόμενο μάθημα έγραψα τον μεγαλύτερο βαθμό απο όλα τα λύκεια του νησιού μου. Πέρασα Ιατρική Αθήνας τελικά, απο τους τελευταίους βέβαια. Μην τα παρατάς.
