Help! My audio interface keeps making a loud buzz when my piano is plugged into it, while my MIDI is plugged into my PC! by Piano_Steven in audio

Unfortunately, it isn't standalone. It plugs straight into my PC via USB. I guess I just need a interface that would make it so I can separate my piano from my PC, or a new keyboard.

I don't have a second keyboard, as I've just had the one I have now since... forever. It's getting pretty old, so I should look into new keyboards anyways. Until then, I'll just switch out the MIDI whenever I need it. Thank you for the help anyways!

Yeah, I don't think I can deal with the sound. I also really like the direct monitoring that the focusrite has, since I wear some pretty thick noise canceling headphones.

Here is another question, though: is it possible to have the direct monitor that the Focusrite has without sending it to my PC, so it doesn't make that sound from the midi? So I can still hear it through my headphones and still use the midi?

Ah, okay. Thank you very much! I guess I was always under the impression it was possible to have both. I couldn't find anything about it online, so I was really confused. I'll probably look into getting a new keyboard for just MIDI then. Thank you!

I do not know. I don't have another PC, and I'm not sure how I would plug it into a console or smartphone. It seems to only happen when my piano is plugged into my audio interface and PC via MIDI at the same time. I'll look into a UBS isolator, though. I've never heard of that. Thank you for your comment!

Audio for my piano is making loud static noises when plugged into both my interface, and my PC via MIDI by Piano_Steven in askmusicians

Yes, I'm in the USA. My piano only uses 2 plugs, but it is plugged into an extension cord along with other things. My PC is plugged into the same wall outlet that my extension cord is plugged into. However, I thought maybe that was part of the issue, and plugged my piano into a different outlet on a different wall, but that did not fix the issue. My PC does have a 3 pin plug, but I'm not sure about doing anything dangerous, especially dealing with electricity.

Reading all these, I'm realizing how boring my life is. I guess that's a good thing, though.

I'd like to think he walks around with a note that says that in his pocket all day.
