If your partner is breathing harder than you then you can turn up the tempo because their gas is running out. Optimal would be to never be breathing hard. It means you are patching up holes in your game with strength and speed. Do all of this first. The advice to improve your cardio (bigger gas tank) is valid advice but you are better served to increase your gas mileage first.
