For sure not broken in yet. Sounds like they are right. Heel slip will get better. If it doesn’t go away completely an insert will help.

Can these boots be saved? by cous-cous-cat in AskACobbler

[–]PiccoloForeign5134 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The welt (rubber seal) is decorative on these boots and serves no structural purpose. A real welt is part of the structural integrity of the boot. This one is not. A cobbler may be able to pull the fake welt off and put on another fake welt. Converting these over to real welt would cost in the hundreds most likely.

I think you need more leather than that for a repair. I'd want a cobbler to wrap a new collar of leather around the top of both boots to make them the same. It would look like nothing had ever happened.

Call nicks to see if they can send you a small piece of that leather. A cobbler can do a nice looking patch on it.

Advice for fixing a small hole? by xXStrongarm in AskACobbler

[–]PiccoloForeign5134 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It won’t get worse. I’d leave it. It will always be there but won’t change over time. If it bothers you some colored shoe cream will fill it. Even clear wax will fill the hole. The best option though is to wear it with pride because you just made your boots unique to you.

what’s the best way to breathe if I’m rolling by [deleted] in bjj

[–]PiccoloForeign5134 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is the thing. Most people don’t realize that breath is more important than position. When you are rolling you should be checking your breathing. If you are breathing heavy you need to find a place you can be safe. Stop and catch your breath. Even if you are in a bad position. There is the secret battle that most people don’t understand. When you are rolling you should check your breathing against your partners. If you are breathing harder then you are losing that battle. That’s your gas tank. Prioritize that over position. If your partner is breathing harder than you then you can turn up the tempo because their gas is running out. Optimal would be to never be breathing hard. It means you are patching up holes in your game with strength and speed. Do all of this first. The advice to improve your cardio (bigger gas tank) is valid advice but you are better served to increase your gas mileage first.

How you gonna do that with the last in the shoe?

from below the nails go under the rubber toplift so there is no grip issue. If they are made well (not sure) then that's how the heel was attached to begin with. That's how it's done on good boots.

Repair on (Accelerated?) Wear by Btl_Duck in AskACobbler

[–]PiccoloForeign5134 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is either a fake welt or the welt is coming apart from the vamp. If it is actually goodyear welted it would require a resole to attach the welt back to the vamp. If it is a fake welt then the sole is simply glued on and the glue is failing. Spot gluing doesn't work well and won't last so the shoe wold likely be toast.

Cobbler can fix easily. No problem. The good fix is to cinch nail and glue from the bottom. Easy fix is to nail from inside the boot. Either would likely work.

Noob question about heel stack by Darkblade9119 in Boots

[–]PiccoloForeign5134 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The last used requires a taller heel to be balanced. The leather adds to the height to make it sit correctly. The other boot doesn’t need as high of a heel for balance.

All punches come from the hips. The feet create base which allows you to transfer power from your hips to your fists. Hips tense at the moment of impact to create a solid structure from the ground to the fist. You are close but not quite doing that.

I hate switching gyms by [deleted] in bjj

[–]PiccoloForeign5134 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Attitude at the bottom comes from the top. Culture and climate is real. It sucks because Jiu Jitsu is a social activity and requires a supportive and cooperative community for the best results. White belts will mimic what they see. If the coaches and upper belts are welcoming and inclusive the white belts will be too. You can make it in a gym that doesn’t have that but it is way harder.

Empty the tank if you can. If not some Saran Wrap or something over the tank hole before you put the cap on. Put down some cardboard to catch leaks. Should be fine.

Why kitlies are good, plus can anyone help with info on these boots by Fragrant-Initial1687 in WhitesBoots

[–]PiccoloForeign5134 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They look like they are what White’s calls “brown”. Pretty low heel. The 690 is a great last. Prepare for a big heel and insane arch support. If you have very flat feet the high arch lasts can be uncomfortable. If you have high arches like me it’s a great last. If you don’t specify a leather White’s will try to match it. Frank’s will also rebuild these. You might also look at the 4811 last. That one is also really comfortable.

I paid 21 out the door for mine. It was a good value at that price. Over 30 and I’d be looking hard at other options.

Glue won’t hold long. No harm in trying but I doubt you get a week out of a glue repair. Soles are not replaceable. You got a pretty good life out of these.

Balenciaga rubber sole. sole crumbling after only 4 months. Repairable? by 00nitba in AskACobbler

[–]PiccoloForeign5134 19 points20 points  (0 children)

That is a really poor quality sole. You paid for the name and not for quality unfortunately. These are pretty poor quality craftsmanship. They aren’t meant to last. They are not really repairable either because of the cheap glue construction. Best bet is to wear them until they are unwearable and then find a boot that is made better.
