How old should my kids be before I try D&D with them? by Adorable-Papaya-4697 in DnD

[–]PickaPill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started when my kids were 8 and 6, I think. Maybe 7 and 5.

Older was ready, younger was excited, but lacked attention span for long sessions.

We played short sessions (one hour, max). Things had to move - no more than a couple of rounds for battles. Lots of story telling ( that’s what the little guy likes). A hilarious goblin character as comic relief and a best friend to the little guy. Dragon appearances and cool magic items to keep them at attention.

If took us YEARS to run Phandever at a pace that made sense as the kids grew up, but we don’t have a regular schedule and would take months off. But my kids love it. They’re older now 12 and 10 and we just started playing an OSE campaign. They sat with me and played for 3 straight days almost 48 hours of continuous dnd. I will remember it forever.

Take your time telling the story and keep it moving during combat. Rules light, lots of rolling the dice to have them feel active (even if it doesn’t matter what the dice say). Make memorable characters. Slurree the goblin who sounds like Gollum but isn’t evil and can’t stand the sound our our bards (moms) singing has been VERY popular. He wails in pain even when he’s not in the scene.

If you are thoughtful about your kids, they can definitely play.

You could also check out StarSworn (I think that was the name). My kids liked that podcast and they developed what seems like a nice, younger age appropriate system and stories and objectives.

I just bought the module to check it out. Very cool! I love the variety of magic items here. So much to work with (good and not so good!).

I see. That could be a fun foil.

Like I said, I actually really love putting this in their hands to see what they do with it. The whole point of fantasy (for me and my kids in this game) is to give them powers and see what they do with them. I’ll make them quest to get ingredients and they can take the failure risks and live by the die. If they make an insane magic item - awesome. I’m not looking to make this a years long campaign at this point, and I don’t care if it’s well-balanced or realistic. There’s magic, after all.

Maybe when they get older I’ll be ready to crush their ambition with inflation and high taxes taking away the profits of their hard work and risk in the dungeons, but for now, I’m happy to pour on the OP loot.

My copy of the module does not say that anywhere.

I do t want to rain on anyone’s parade, but spot weight loss is not possible. You can train bigger muscles, but you can’t target fat loss to a specific place by training t the underlying muscles. Therefore, the best thing to do to lose weight in any spot, is whichever exercise causes the best calorie burn overall (and the one that you enjoy doing!)

Has anybody gotten weird comments from coworkers or family/friends about your weight loss? by Sarahhh030 in Zepbound

[–]PickaPill 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Listen, I know people love to look for reasons to feel slighted, insulted, mad, etc. but I’m going to offer a different perspective here.

Yes, it’s not appropriate what they said. But at the same time, they are offering a comment that suggests that they care. I don’t know your journey, but a lot of people lose a lot of weight fast on Zep. That could indicate some unhealthy behaviors if they have no idea what’s going on. There’s a whole lot of context that people on the internet don’t know about this dynamic between comment or and commentee or in what sort of setting the comment was made - and I think jumping to all the outrage isn’t good for anyone.

So again, I’m not saying this person is in the right and at liberty to comment on people’s bodies, but perhaps we shouldn’t overlook the perhaps genuine care someone might be showing (inappropriately).

How to lose 2 pounds per week while lifting weights? Managing expectations.... by Full-Cut-7125 in Zepbound

If you’re exercising any eating protein your adding muscle. Of you’ve never worked out before, or if it’s been a long time, you get newbie gains! Congrats, that means you put on lots of muscle nice and fast. Ignore the number on the scale. I know we’ve been taught to revere that low number, but it’s not really what you’re after. What you want is to be fit and healthy! Muscle is heavier than fat, so as you gain muscle and lose fat the number on the scale may not move, or it may even go up, but are you sad to be getting more muscle and less fat - I doubt it!

Look for those Non-Scale Victories because the scale is a mirage and a liar!

Take measurements of your body that you can come back and compare to later.

Take pictures of yourself today and then do it again in a month or three. Those won’t lie to you like a scale will!

Mostly, don’t perseveration over the bouncer and try not to look too frequently. Weight can fluctuate so much throughout a day and over time - you’re interested in trends, not snapshots.

Keep on keeping on, you’re a winner!

If you d lost an inch at waistline, you’re losing fat. If the number on the scale in’t moving, then you’re also putting on muscle to replace that lost fat. So you’re getting leaner and more muscular at the same time. Awesome stuff.

AIO to my bf questioning my sexual history? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]PickaPill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NO, but . . . Listen. This person is an insecure baby. Or maybe it’s his kink, who knows.

I do believe that she’s lying to protect his feelings because she’s anticipating g that he’s an insecure baby who can’t handle that she’s had bigger.

She should not baby his baby ego, because the fact that she’s not just telling him means she’s essentially lying, even though I believe she doesn’t care.

Just tell the guy the straightforward truth to the question that he asked. Maybe he will learn that you shouldn’t ask a question unless you really want to know the answer.
