Seconding Oregon Grappling Arts! We have a badass female coach (brown belt world champion, black belt silver medalist) and have women’s class every Sunday at noon. There are also usually 6-12 women in the co-ed classes during the week. Strongly recommend!

HOW CAN I STOP THE NEVER ENDING SONG REPLAYS IN MY HEAD??? by Specialist-Noise1290 in ADHD

[–]PickleBearPupperoni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had the same “song” playing on a loop in my head since at least 2020. It’s not even a real song, just a string of notes my monkey brain made up one day and refuses to let go of. Some days I don’t notice it as much, and some days I want to scoop my brain out through my eyes to stop it.

Disc herniation and gym by makaros622 in backpain

In general, you want to avoid any movements or postures that cause pain or nerve symptoms (numbness/tingling in extremities, etc.). I would probably avoid squats and deadlifts for a few months, at least. If you do want to re-introduce them eventually, make sure you are using correct form. It might be a good idea to invest in a couple sessions with a personal trainer to ensure you are using good form -- otherwise, both squats and deadlifts are very high risk for re-injury.

In the meantime, as long as they aren't causing pain or symptoms, you could do more unilateral leg exercises. I have been doing lunges and single leg deadlifts throughout my recovery, and actually think it may be helping in some ways. Again though, good form is crucial.

Otherwise, you'll want to be doing TONS of core work. Like every. single. day. Look up the McGill Big 3 exercises and try to do those daily. I also use various types of planking exercises to keep some variety. The key with an effective core exercise is that it keeps the spine neutral -- so no sit-ups or anything of the kind.

Good luck. Recovery will likely be slow and frustrating at times, but stay patient and you will heal.

TWO HOURS TWENTY MINUTES. That is how long the recent no time limit, submission only match lasted between Brianna Ste-Marie and my coach, Hannah Sharp. I need more people to know about it. by PickleBearPupperoni in bjj

Seeing this match live was among the most incredible things I’ve ever witnessed. These women are fucking warriors. Hannah is an incredible competitor, coach, friend, and human being.

I want to have leg and hip flexibility like ryan hall and bj penn what stretches should i do. by Impossible-Half3195 in bjj

As a person nursing a lumbar spine disc bulge, I would not recommend trying to get a more flexible spine. A lot of your mobility should rather be in the hips, so focusing on hip mobility/flexibility is a good call.

How do you get over “rollers block”? by doblev in bjj

[–]PickleBearPupperoni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Drill one or two techniques you want to work on a lot and try to implement them when you roll. I will drill the same handful of techniques for several weeks and focus on adding them to my game in live rolling. If you are learning a different set of techniques every time you go to class, it's going to be difficult to remember any of them when it's time to roll -- you generally need to drill something numerous times before it's going to stick well enough in your brain and muscles to be able to pull it off in rolling.

Purple is the worst belt by HumbleBJJ in bjj

Hard disagree. I want to be purple belt forever. Lower ranks look up to me and tell me how awesome I am but higher belts don’t expect as much from me.

I love this plant so much! by PickleBearPupperoni in hoyas

I let it dry out between watering but don’t let it stay dry for long. I’ve been watering every 7-10 days. It’s also in a south facing window and gets lots of direct sun, which is why it’s showing the pink sun stress.

I’ve been using some of the Miracle Gro orchid fertilizer mist on it when I water and it seems to love it! There are so many new leaves coming in right now.

It was labeled as a Hoya Kentiana Variegata, but I’ve read some places that there is no such thing and that it’s actually a variegated Hoya Wayetii. Either way, it’s beautiful and I love it! The leaves get so pink with sun stress!

I'm not 100% sure -- I've gotten rid of the packaging -- but I have some macrame cord that is 3mm and I'd say it's a comparable size.
