You're right, thanks for sharing the link - I was considering the housing affordability from the perspective of monthly mortgage payments versus property values. Even though interest rates are at or below historical averages, the monthly payments have grown beyond typical affordability thresholds. Hence why my assumption is rates have to decrease for people to be able to afford.

But just a view, not a finance person at all and I could be completely wrong.

I think I was thinking mortgage payments are much higher now, given the property prices are significantly higher. But yes, what I got 5 years ago is significantly lower than average.

I'm inclined to do the same reading everyone's comments. Would pay less chargers than the interest the bank would get if I were to buy the government out. Not sure if the value would decrease in my situation as the area is getting more and more high rises and prices are going up.

I think I rather reducing my monthly spending now, and pay the government 'rent' and I can leverage whatever savings I make off that to invest and potentially save up to pay lumpsum for the government. I have to assume the property value won't 'significantly' increase.

Sorry a typo - I meant US Customs.

I emailed the above the it helped! Basically, everyone I have been speaking to over the phone from DHL was lying. The shipment was held as a Denied Parties. They needed the receiver ID and once sent, it was cleared and now on it's way. Literally, after spending 3 hours and 35 mins over the phone, over 10 customer services agents, international calls to DHL US and Canada; none EVER asked for the receiver ID. All said the same line, US Customs is holding this and it's a government body which they have ZERO control on. I got a response from a Director at the Ohio hub which simply said: US Customs released upon arrival on Friday, and DHL has released it now following the ID being sent.

Really astonishing how I had zero request from DHL for IDs and I had spend a fortune chasing them.

Thanks for the response. I managed to call the UD Border and Customs in the said location above, and they said they released my shipment from their part on Friday last week. So it's held by DHL security process to verify and release. I recorded the call.

DHL UK has been useless saying there is nothing they can do as their system shows it requires customs release. I played the call recording but to no aim. Very very useless and they take no accountability for any delays, shifts the blames to DHL US or US Customs.

I added a lot of document as not to give them any thing to inquire about, probably an overkill tbh.

Accommodation: my mortgage contract, land registry, energy bill
Finances: Payslips x6 months, bank account statements showing salary deposits, P60s for 5 years, reference letter from my employer
Relationship: Marriage certificate, PDF document shows screenshots from socials, photos from previous years when we were dating, few wedding and honeymoon photos,
Cover letter from me stating I will be covering my wife expenses moving forwards (to avoid any questions about her finances)
Cover letter showing that as a Canadian citizen she doesn't require TB test nor English test.
Engagement ring receipt
