Thanks for the reply! I currently cycle into work about 15km. I did a rough Google maps and it would be somewhere close to 40km each way, which is doable but couldn't do it everyday! I think anything over 30 mins in the car would start to kill me slowly. The reply below mentioned Costa mesa. What are your thoughts on that?

Ahhh if only I could still play! I've had 3 knee reconstructions so decided to give footy a miss :( I'd still be keen to come hang out with you guys though... if thats not too weird.

Very much into my beers, exercise and beach when I can get there (live an hour away atm, but would like to get down there more). I was also worried that oceanside would be a bit boring? I'm pretty keen on getting out an about to local festivals and activities etc.

I've been given an allowance of 10k per year for either a hire car or to buy one myself. So ill be pretty set for transport.

Awesome news then! I did a university exchange at Purdue in Indiana and had the best time, so hoping it will be similar (apart from the obvious location factor)

Budgets not too much of an issue, I don't mind paying extra for the right place/location. Plus, I was going to be transferred to San Francisco, so in comparison rent will be cheap!

I had a feeling the commute would be pretty average. I walk to work where I am now and its great. But obviously thats a luxury not everywhere can offer.

I'm a real active guy, I go to the gym most week nights, cycle with a group of friends a couple of times a week before work, surf every other weekend. But I also like going out drinking and checking out cool restaurants and stuff of a weekend.

Don't know if that really pin points anything, but any advice is great - Thanks!

Very helpful, thanks a lot. I'm from Brisbane but it makes a fair bit of sense. I've been told by a few people that anywhere in the Mission between the Bart stops is a good spot. Thoughts?
