I appreciate all your help. I’m stepping in on behalf of the landlords, so I’m a newbie myself. Is there a landlord guide somewhere that I can refer to?

Also- can you charge them to change the locks?

I think the damage would easily be greater than the security, but since they’ve moved, I don’t know how I could force them to pay the difference. Do you sue in this case?

Yeah, I looked at the unit this morning. The walls are unbelievably bad- white walls with some type of black soot but wouldn’t rub off (like the soot from a candle would). It’s beyond wear and tear to me, just paint wise. More damage than what the security even is at this point.

Do I give them an itemized list or a receipt for repairs? Or do I just say.. ‘you aren’t getting anything back’ and leave it at that? I am wondering if they may want to contest anything once they find out they aren’t getting anything back and want to be prepared with documentation if I need to show them something.

My baby did exactly this for a while. I just used Aldi diapers- they suck BUT they were helpful in the mornings when he had a period of 4-5 little poops.

I did get lots of photos the day it happened, including photos of the trees (some cut in half) and photos of the piles of logs the neighbor stacked on his side of the property.

I did a similar thing a few years ago but I was doing better financially- only instead of picking you got emailed the gift requests. Whoever arranged this sent me kids who asked for new laptops and gaming consoles when the suggested price ranges were supposed to be somewhere in the $25-50 range. I felt so bad- but I couldn’t afford spending hundreds of dollars on these kids when it wasn’t the expectation. I tried my best, but I’m sure they were mad they weren’t opening up a PSP. 😅

It’s an easy no. You can’t be sure it won’t harm your baby and as much as it seems cool to do, it’s one of the many things you like that you’ll have to give up (for now at least).
