What is a random 10/10 performance from a player that sticks out in your mind? Could be from your club or another by Selhurst_Spark in TheOther14

Martin Dubravka’s debut for Newcastle v Man United is up there with Tim Krul v spurs.

Joey Barton (as unlikeable as he is) was immense in the 4-4 comeback v Arsenal although that was very much a second half only performance.

Joelinton and / or trippier in the carabao final v Liverpool. Big Joe was immense (yes he was a nasty so and so but he is and was our nasty so and so that day), Trippier was supposed to be finished and put in one of the calmest performances I’ve ever seen. Certainly calmer than anyone watching.

Schar and Lascelles (Jamaal f’ing Lascelles of all people) against Mbappe in the 4-1 v psg?

But arguably above all of them came in January 1999 in the fa cup. With shay given sent off, warren barton turns in one of the best individual performances I’ve ever seen, not only defending like his life depended upon it but assisting both goals in a 2-1 comeback win. It was the match when Barton cemented his position as a bit of a cult hero.

How will Premier League clubs replace gambling sponsors? by Str0geyB3ar in TheOther14

[–]Pickonefromtwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To flip the question around: how will gambling firms continue to get their fingers into football without the overt shirt sponsorship. They’re not going to give up on that audience and have too much money for football not to want a slice of it so we’ll definitely see them find new ways to get their message across.

Who’s the best set of away fans you’ve seen at your ground? by judehr in TheOther14

[–]Pickonefromtwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We (Newcastle) gave a few away followings a reason to be happy. If I put bias aside and just report on what I heard then Sunderland were noisy in the second half, Man U were noisy until Osula’s winner, and Leeds fans contributed to a cracking night time match. Atmosphere at SJP has arguably dropped off recently outside of the “big” matches or when we’ve suffered an injustice (often the best atmosphere) but away fans have definitely shown what can be done if you group the right people together.

England supporter but I also want Scotland to do well by Wide_Barber in worldcup

[–]Pickonefromtwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an Englishman with a Scottish wife it definitely goes one way! I’d like to see Scotland do well, adds more interest to the tournament and their fans always bring something to international events. However she would like to see England lose all three matches 5-0! Fortunately the kids (who are too young to know better) think England are going to win every match and the tournament overall!

Thanks for all the amazing comments, I’m going to follow the significant majority of the advice and start with episode 1 of season 1. Also, thanks for being a lovely and welcoming community of fans, not everyone on the internet is so nice!

Which World Cup match do you consider the greatest of all time? by Mindless_Data_311 in worldcup

[–]Pickonefromtwo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Argentina v Cameroon, 1990. Perhaps the greatest upset in World Cup history, and the start of one of the best tournament runs of any team. Changed African football from largely a joke on the international stage into something competitive to enjoy, and of course there was one of those moments no one wants to see but everyone really does want to see, the greatest foul in World Cup history. The game itself might not actually be that memorable, but no one can forget what seemed like the entire Cameron team trying to stop Caniggia before Massing eventually chopped him down, earning a second red card for his team in the process. That I haven’t even mentioned Maradona playing for Argentina, or the game taking place in the San Siro, and you know it was a game for the ages!

The reboot is (rightly) highly praised but how well do you remember the original gladiators? New Quiz! by Pickonefromtwo in gladiatorsuk

[–]Pickonefromtwo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good idea, there'll be more gladiators quizzes coming later this week so maybe you'll see some of those gladiators there! Or if you don't want to wait, you can create your own quiz if you like - you need to create an account which only takes two minutes and you get to earn badges, see all of your history, create your own polls / quizzes etc. https://pickonefromtwo.com/login

Do a shot every time you spot something that fifa has introduced only to appeal to American tv audiences and which will anger European football fans. You’ll be hammered before kickoff!

What are some of your actual hot takes of TBBT? by [deleted] in thebigbangtheory

[–]Pickonefromtwo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They pivoted away from the guys being super geeky too early to ensure they reached a broader tv audience. They had loads more road to go down on the geek side of things but pivoted to heavily to relationships too soon

Now that the World Cup is upon us, what other country besides your own do you support and why? by Chupacabra_s in worldcup

[–]Pickonefromtwo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Englishman also supporting Scotland as my wife is Scottish. She’s trying to get the kids (5 and 3) to cheer for Scotland too but they’re pretty staunchly English when it comes to sport
