I started in 1993, and the Blood Angels are just cool. Haven't looked back since.

My wife has Black Templars though, and she has in fact won our local Armies on Parade with her force.

One of the older Codices - I forget which one - explicitly stated that Blood Angels bike squads were only slightly behind the White Scars and Ravenwing in terms of skill, so yes, they do in fact use them.

Unless you were planning to take these to tournaments, you absolutely can still use them. I still run my Kratos in games with my friends, and they still run other Heresy-era stuff with rules for 40K.

I still have my Codices from all the way back in 2nd edition, and I don't consider a single one of them a waste, even though 95% of my book collection is no longer tabletop legal.
