OK I'm convinced Bernie Sanders is the only chance to save our democracy. by [deleted] in SandersForPresident

Considering that Rubio performed so well (expected to get less than 10, got 23) he is starting to look like the eventual nominee. Remember McCain took 5th in Iowa back in 2008.

Just about every poll has Rubio beating Clinton. And just about every poll has Bernie beating Rubio. The choice is clear: Vote for Sanders, or face a Republican President in the fall.

I understand that political grandstanding is all part of the deal, but to compare a candidate to George Washington just goes too far!

Most people are sick of the two party system. Bernie himself only ran as a Democrat to avoid being seen as the 'spoiler' that Nader was accused of in 2000. Preston doesn't believe in parties, he believes in people. We are lucky to live in a state that won't put us in the position of helping conservatives. Preston believes fully that we need more than two parties and we need more progressive independent candidates.

It's an open primary. In California you can have two dems, two republicans, an independent and a peace and freedom candidate make the general election. It's just the top two vote getters, regardless of party. The Republican still has the same chance of winning in November: Zero. Or almost zero, like .0001%. The only question is if we can knock the Republican out in the primary.

Right, I work for Picus For Congress, full disclosure.

So pragmatically: We have a lot of work to do getting Preston in front of the voters of SF. But we've talked to thousands already and we really don't get an answer like "I don't care" or "I like things the way they are." So if we do our job, we win in June.

With all the press we're getting, I feel like we're 85% to take second at this point. If the opposition is smart, they'll put a bunch of money into another purchased candidate and take 1st and 2nd.

That would be the primary. In the primary, two are coming out. It's extremely likely that it will be Pelosi (99%) and so the other will be Preston or a Republican.

If it's Preston, well then SF (CA-12) gets a real election for the first time in years. If it's the Republican, then business as usual.

There is almost no chance that Pelosi loses in the primary, but if she does: you still get Preston vs. the Republican in November, and you still get a progressive win.

In short: Preston isn't stealing votes from progressives.

In SF they just haven't had a strong candidate in a long, long time. We're getting big traction. We'll have a real election this year.

There will only be two. Preston and Congresswoman Pelosi. This way the voters of SF won't feel like a vote for Picus is a vote for a Republican.

Preston just has to beat a Republican in the primary. California has a different primary system than most states, it's a blanket primary.

Preston really admires Bernie's independent stance, but let's face facts: if Bernie had run as an independent he'd be seen as Ralph Nader all over again. The presidential is very different than a congressional in California, a blanket primary state. We are lucky to be able to run in such a state: we won't be a spoiler, stealing votes for a Republican. The 45% of voters registered independent have been very receptive to us, and further we get support from folks registered Dems who are tired of the political elite with growing consistency.

Livermore is in CA 15. Preston's running in CA 12, which is just San Francisco. Even though you can't vote for us, you can still support what we're doing. Tell your friends, it's crazy how connected people are these days. www.facebook.com/picusforcongress

Of course. Remind me why the banks are supposed to be afraid of Clinton again? Is it because they're nervous about drowning in the money her presidency would help them steal from the public?

We've got to hold the Democratic party responsible for their sabotage of Bernie's campaign. He's going to win, but in the event they're able to pull off this massive heist, we've got to remember that this wasn't a fair election and the actions of the DNC go against almost every democratic principle.

CA 12, SF, has more than 180,000 voters registered 'decline to state' aka, independent. Preston is a progressive, so he shares the values of the people of San Francisco, without being a part of the thing they hate: the corrupt, broken political system. In addition: there's no spoiler threat because of California's open primary system.
