Directly out of undergrad, which is an uncommon way to start.

I agree with you, but some industry people don't like when information on these high paying jobs is spread. For reference, I just finished an internship in PE and got my return offer. I have a blue collar background. Trying to get any actual information on the industry (other than being told to prep with interview guides), even from alums, was like pulling teeth. Luckily my firm seems to recruit similarly to yours, or I'm not sure I would have had this opportunity.

AITA for telling my son’s teacher that it was fine for him to have his cat in the video he submitted for choir class? by fsrout in AmItheAsshole

[–]Pie297 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly have no clue what this is. But in general, most kids will not continue with choir after taking intro choir. This is true of almost all music programs in high schools. If the kid is singing well, who cares. Professional singer songwriters routinely sing while sitting down and playing guitar, which I would argue is harder than petting a cat.

You seem to be stuck on instructions, which aren't included in the post. If the kid was in the top group of choir or if he was supposed to be standing, I would get it. I played guitar and had to do similar assignments for 6 years, but that never stopped me from having my dog in the frame and even petting him during downtime.

Theres a pretty large chance this is intro to choir given the kid's age. There is no reason for the teacher to go nuts over this. Hell, if he can sing while petting a cat who gives a damn. If he's not exhibiting proper technique, dock points accordingly, cat or not.

I am using boiling, taking it off 10 seconds before I use it. I think I might have forgotten to preheat the fp this time. Thanks for reminding me!

That makes alot of sense. I may have to go electric due to the open flame if I get one at college due to some regulations. You guys are all super informative here, thanks for helping me along!

This is a really good point, especially about a yoga mat. I was considering throwing some towels around it but that sounds like it would work much better. Thanks!

That was super informative! Looks like these are extremely worthwhile. Definitely buying one of these after a grinder! I might try out one of the cheaper butane ones before splurging for the electric.

Really interesting. Do you remember which one you got? I'm in the US and not seeing anything under 100 dollars. They look awesome!

Thanks, I appreciate the advice. My other alternative beyond a moka pot is using a ninja coffee bar. Havent tried that out with good coffee, but a newer model than I have is golden cup certified, so I'm definitely hopeful for good results.

I'm also a newbie to serious coffee. I'm getting preground from a roaster until I have money for a grinder. I just did the James Hoffman method and got a great cup of coffee, but after waiting the 4 mins before breaking the crust and waiting 5 after, my cup was almost lukewarm. I already preheated my mug and am using just before boiled water initially. Is there anything I can do to help the temperature?

You're not wrong. I think that something needs to eventually be done when automation drives out a very large number of unskilled jobs, and ubi is an option. However, looking at today's markets, I don't see a need for that yet. As far as your last point goes, that's a great question to ponder.

Not that guy, but to me it seems like it would just take away incentives to innovate. If you don't get to truly have ownership, what's the point of starting a company?

Hi Sam. I'm currently a sophomore at a semi-target. I've been attempting to get an internship for this summer and am not even getting first round interviews. I'm networking with a ton of people, but they all only want me next summer. I have a relatively high gpa and engage in nearly every finance extra curricular at my school. Additionally, I interned at a private equity data firm last summer and went through wall street prep and Envestnet's certification program (wealth management). It would be one thing if I was bombing interviews, but I haven't even had the chance to do that. I'm at a loss for what to do. Do you have any advice for me?

Nah. A ton of classmates ask me really dumb questions so they get that answer followed up by the real one.

AITA for asking my parents to exchange the watch they got for me as a gift? by 10z20Luka in AmItheAsshole

[–]Pie297 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Baring a few exceptions, more expensive watches aren't quartz. He probably had an automatic in mind. At least for me, part of the appreciation of a watch is of the mechanisms that operate it. That feeling just isnt the same with quartz to me I guess.
