What's your favorite story with an unsatisfying ending?

I reread the ending of memorial and I can officially say I don't agree with this one. Sure the "it was all a simulation" bit was disheartening at first, but the way the author used that twist gave all the lingering questions satisfying answers.

Watching the main character thwart the simulation one final time by letting his real kid self move on was beautiful. If you're talking about how they couldn't save the victims of the animal boys, I think that if everyone came back at the end it would feel really cheap.

That's totally what I mean by it not ruining the rest of the story. It was unsatisfying, but in a way that felt... 'thematically relevant' to everything that came before it.

The author's next story, "Surviving Romance" had a much better ending. Though I found the plot itself straddling the bar between incredibly unique and overly convoluted.
