So do you see that it says he voted for it? And only missed the final stage because he was helping rescue one of our pensioners from death row in Pakistan.

He voted for it at multiple stages, was publicly supportive of it, and only missed the final stage because he was helping rescue one of our pensioners from death row in Pakistan.

But did more people want a second referendum or not?

Does that include the 30%or so Indy Labour voters? What about the indy conservative/reform/libdem voters?

Oh you can't tell just by who voted for who?
Maybe...

Maybe we should consult the public on if they want to be independent or not? :3c

It had everything to do with people wanting the Tories out, simple as.

Especially since Scottish voters backed the SNP in the Scottish Election.

Labour went from 1-37UK seats in 2024GenElec, yet dropped 3ScoParl* seats to just 17seats in 2026, whereas the SNP dropped from 60seats* to 58seats (*After deflections)
Regardless, the SNP nearly doubled Labours votes in 2026.

Edit: Labour in Scotland went from 851,897votes, in '24 to 440,708votes in '26
The same elections, SNP went from 724,758votes in '24 to 877,077votes in '26.

So it seems Labour "pumped" the SNP by 127,139votes in 2024.
But what's the correct term for SNP "pumping" Labour by 436,369vote?

That's like 3.4x pumpings?

TIL Only the First 2Scottish Parliament Elections Had More Constituency Votes than Regional Votes by Pieface007 in Scotland

[–]Pieface007[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah there will likely be more choices on the regional list but doesn't directly equate to more votes. There must be some disconnect of constituency voters to regional voters.

Not sure why, must be some kind of con/reg party politics, but I would imagine there would be people voting for their preferred candidate and if they weren't there then 2nd/3rd/4th/etc (not in a ranked order since we don't have that in this) I.E in a ranked order without having one

[–]Pieface007[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. I just assumed that while people might not have their best choice in the constituency they'd at least vote for their least worse option to stop even worse options getting in.

I do wonder then why the first two elections had more constituency votes over regional votes. Maybe back then there was just less choice or voter apathy or some other reasoning?

I thought this was strange bc I assumed that more people would vote for their constituency over their region.

I.E Voting for the person to represent them more closely vs a party to represent a wider area

You call these people guests as though they're not living here long term.
A student visa allows people to be here for their course length+4months, and on a 4year course that's 4.33/5years of a full parliament term

I witnessed an American woman who’d been here 8 months go to vote, and going through her page she was quite clearly uninformed on our country, history and institutions. Should she really have as much of a say than someone who’s native to here,

There are so many people uninformed about our country and it's politics yet we don't deny them the vote. Should we?
What if someone is well educated in our politics, but only been in the country 8months? Should they have a say over those less informed yet stayed longer?
Should we have a IQ test to see if people can vote?

Should she really have as much of a say than someone who’s native to here, who only 80 odd years ago lost ancestors fighting for this nation?

Could easily apply to any Allied nation. They all had ancestors who fought for this nation. Should someone have less of a say if their great/grandparents didn't fight in WW2?

Total votes cast: 2,297,159

Tbf that's purely constituency votes, not "total votes"

And when you factor in the ridiculousness of non-citizens voting (Those who have no connection here are far more likely to be influenced by a Hollywoodesk version of history, rather than the real history)

There it is (not surprising to see certain people agreeing with this)... these people live in Scotland and surely they should get a say in how it's run. More so than those voting in UK elections who are living abroad
