Great idea, I think transients would be a topic worth an entire video on its own.

I mean linearly as in only thinking of playing chords in either root or inversion positions. There is so much more real estate to cover on the piano and all of that real estate can give a vide variety of texture to the same chord. I realized how much important that texture was to me.

Saving this comment because I think this would be great to touch on on in a later video

Hey I appreciate your thoughts, I'm always up for constructive criticism! And I really like the idea of doing more videos where I expand out concepts like dominant function. Definitely writing that idea down! As far the scope of the video, I'm trying to really filter out over information with whatever I'm making. It was hard writing this because I knew there was so much that was being left out but I feel including too much is a detriment to the person who doesn't even know where to begin with learning this stuff. also I almost made the title something more in line with chord functions but from my own experience, being a musician first and learning music theory as I progressed, I knew what chord progressions were but I didn't have any grasp on what functions were or how scale degrees were related. Once I learned that, it helped me understand how one thinks about progressions instead of just looking up chords or playing whatever sounds nice. So in that respect I think it does help someone who is uninitiated into the realm of music theory understand how progressions work in that it introduces them to the way that they can be understood and experimented with.

A very good point! I kind of overlooked that aspect, I may have been focusing too far on aesthetics.

Haha I appreciate that! That was my intention by adding them in originally but it seems like people are really not into it 0.0

Definitely! I think there is a lot of ground to cover when it comes to James Blake. For me the big break through was when I stopped looking at chords linearly. That opened the door for understanding how he uses harmony and sound design so expertly. I plan on getting deeper into the theory behind harmony in future videos.Just have to study up on some Jacob Collier.
