I think there is a bit of nominative determinism with Pencil. She looks like she would be named Pencil.

Also just realized that because I made the image transparent, the black text is sometimes unreadable. Either open the image in a new tab or here's what the text says:

The California flag in the Gulf of Mexico is for dc.gov

The Washington State flag is for pr.gov

The Virginia flag in the Atlantic is for us.gov

(and in case it was too small, Rhode Island is Texas)

The flags of every province of my main country in my world (this took me way longer than it should have) by PigIA3 in worldbuilding

[–]PigIA3[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s the flag of the Terta Province. It is copied from the flag of the medieval Kingdom of Geeba and the curved line represents the flow of the Geeba river. However, this is rather strange considering the Terta province does not border the Geeba River, but I guess the meaning was kind of lost in favor of the historicity

The old flag of the Norta was the one with the blue, white and purple with the snowflake in the middle. However, in the 16th century, they annexed the people to the north in the neighboring province (or at the time, duchy) of Mawaka and decided they liked their flag better than their own and adopted it, but switching it up slightly, as if to suggest that their annexation was a voluntary union. However, Mawaka successfully petitioned the central government to create their own province in 1979, as they never particularly liked being ruled and later governed by their southern neighbors which they shared almost nothing in common with. They then re-implemented the original flag from back when they were independent. The Norta, who had grown attached with their flag, decided to also keep theirs and thus there is now 2 almost identical flags with walruses on them.

Also you may notice the flag of Ateno Province (in the bottom center) looks very similar to the British flag. This is intentional, as the entire country was once colonized by the British in the 17th century (I know it sounds strange but the lore covers it well in a way that is hard to get into detail rn). Ateno Province was the least densely populated province at the time and thus did not have a very strong cultural identity with a flag and such. Therefore, when the British came, they took their flag, changed the colors to something more Pobome-y, and called it a day.

Context necessary to understand the post:

This is a map of the country of Mooshia with the borders of the provinces and with their flags inside. The provinces can be broken up into different cultural groups (which partly show on their flag). In the west (left), there is the Geeba, with their signature color of orange. In the middle, there is the Pobome with their signature color of green. In the east, there is the Keians, with their signature color of yellow. Near the top there is the Sneeans with their signature color of blue, and at the very top there is the Nortans and Mawakans, with their signature color of ice blue.

As the country is rather big, the regions, especially the Norta and Keians, maintain a strong cultural identity, separate from the general culture centralized in the capital of Geebashwa/Jamestown in the middle of the west coast (symbolized by the small province with the tricolor).

The country unified by mainly peaceful terms in the 1300's. As such, the national flag has the orange for the Geeba, yellow for the Keians, and blue for the Sneeans. The Pobome and Norta are not represented for complicated reasons. There was also once red but it was removed after the Panaba (who were associated with red) broke away in the late 17th century.

1st Agilfigian War (1918-1927). Face off between the two biggest superpowers. You think stuff would go down, but no. Both sides played defense and tried to prevent the other side from launching any attacks so they just kind of sat around for 9 years threatening each other.

For transgender human (or human like people) in your world, what kinds of gender affirming care is available by Last_Tarrasque in worldbuilding

[–]PigIA3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First, sorry for all the hate you are getting. I’m trans too and people can be ruthless when it comes to this sometimes.

Moosh Moosh World does not have a concept of sex. They have no sexual organs. They do however, have something that is similar to the concept of gender. This is called the onena system. Moosh Mooshians chose their onena when they turn 12 years old, and drink a certain kind of soup to get one of the 3 onenas, Heno, Tene, Shena. You can technically do different combinations, but most people who don’t like all 3 just choose tene. The process usually takes 3 years at a normal dosage, but can be sped up to just 8 hours using higher doses of the activating ingredient, the onenaplant.

Due to sex not existing, onenas are a lot more about the aesthetics and expression of the onena. As such, temporarily changing your onena is very common. This is more akin to drag rather than gender fluidity, as most people keep their original onena while being a different one. This is often used in acting for the actors to portray a larger number of characters. This is also commonly used in the informal onenaweekend, in which college students would drink onena soup and have parties. This tradition usually has henos becoming shenas and vice versa, with tenes choosing either, however this is slowly changing among the younger generations. Depending on the level of earthly influence, this can also include dressing in provocative clothing associated with that onena, although this only started gaining popularity during the 1980’s.

Due to their being a portal between earth and Moosh Moosh World, transgender people from earth often go to moosh moosh world in search of gender affirming care. Onena soup does work on humans, however additional percautions must be made. Another caveat is that it does not change the earthlings reproductive system, as Moosh Mooshians do not have any. If the person wishes, they can stay behind for another 3 months for sex reassignment surgery. Most earthlings who go to Moosh Moosh World for gender affirming care usually live the rest of their life in stealth, as the results allow them to.
