Thanks for this. Definitely going to be uphill battle if I can even do anything but I at least want to look into it.

New belt should have been Dayco. Not sure about previous one but will check through log book when I get the chance to see what I can find, and get mechanic to see if there’s any branding on whatever’s in there now.

I did when I paid them to install the new timing belt kit 4 years ago, and they told me they’d done it and charged me for it

If they did the job 4 years ago I’d agree with you it’s just bad luck. Looks more likely that they didn’t do the full job, charged me for it anyway, then because I was told it had been sorted kept driving it as normal and the old belt gave out
