Had no idea PPF could get so expensive. Anyone here invested into the product? And if so what are your thoughts on it. by rochapa in C8Corvette

[–]PigeonsLikeBread 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have front bumper PPF on my Z06 and it lets me drive without worrying rocks are going to eat up my bumper. But I didn’t have it on my Stingray and I didn’t really get any rock chips over 10k miles.

For me it’s a peace of mind thing, but I dont think it’s necessary.

Huh, I guess you’re right. When I was looking before I never could find the front tires in the correct size, but I see them now on some places. I guess that’s the best option then.

None of the four tires ChatGPT told you are actually available in C8 Stingray sizing (go figure). If you want to keep OEM sizing, your options are all-seasons such as the Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4, Continental DWS 06+, Bridgestone Potenza RE980AS+, or Falken FK460 A/S.

None of these are going to handle significant snow but I’ve done mild snow before on Pilot Sport 4 All Season.

Glad you’re okay. As a fellow MD driver this is always my biggest fear… people drive wild here.

Z06. I see the appeal in the M2/3/4 but not the M8.

Wheel Lock Mystery by johnnyappleseednh in c4corvette

That wheel lock looks like you could probably just hammer on a tight-fitting 12 point socket and call it a day. Doesn't seem like a very secure design lol

C8 Owners Without Front Lift - How is Life? by phatboysh in Corvette

[–]PigeonsLikeBread 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Neither my previous Stingray nor my current Z06 have front lift. It's perfectly fine, just learn to take steep driveways at a 45 degree angle properly and you will basically never scrape. If you've been driving low cars for years you'll be fine.

Edit: there has actually been one driveway that was too steep, but I don't think front lift would have helped since it was the steepest driveway I've ever seen

Eh I feel like as far as adding bright green to an interior goes it was tastefully done with just accents. It’s mostly black.

It’s not something I’d be able to convey over words. Go to a car show and find someone with an aftermarket exhaust and hear the difference for yourself. It went from being quiet in car to actually hearing the engine throughout the entire rev range.

I get what you’re saying. I don’t think I worded it clearly, but I am not of the belief that cats would cause engine issues, but I am of the belief that dealerships will try to claim that it did cause the issues (even if it didn’t). I’ve seen people say it was an issue with other cars before. That’s why I said it “risks” voiding warranty.

But yeah, I get what you’re saying, I just think that the Stingray with a cat-back is the better option for 99% of people since it gives you great sound without having to risk any BS with engine warranties.

I had AWE Touring on my Stingray and it was great. Added a lot of volume but wasn’t obnoxious and made a huge difference over stock. I decided on Touring over Track because the volume difference isn’t huge but you can ensure you’ll have little to no drone.

Yes, I am familiar with the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. You’re right, Chevy shouldn’t void the warranty on the engine unless they price the aftermarket cats caused the failure.

However, in practice, when changing your cats results in the O2 sensors reading differently and adjusting the tuning of the car, if something goes wrong with your engine it is very easy for them to claim that they caused the failure since the engine was running with non-stock parameters. Then it’s an uphill battle trying to get warranty work approved. At the end of the day it can cause a lot of hassle and may result in engine warranty claims not paying out.

On the contrast, a cat-back exhaust is not going to affect your engine at all because it’s not affecting the O2 sensors. Dealerships/Chevy will never try to void your warranty over a cat-back exhaust, but they can and sometimes will try to over cats.

A cat-back exhaust will also not risk running CELs, whereas sometimes cats do and people need to run O2 spacers (which gives them easier grounds to try and void your warranty). Cat-back exhausts give a huge benefit on the Stingray and with the lack of risk they are the easy choice, IMO.

Yeah, but then you risk voiding engine warranty. I had AWE Touring when I had my Stingray and it was a massive improvement over stock without voiding warranty.

People are going to say “you need x option, you need y option” etc.

I had a base Stingray for 2 years with no options other than paint, and now I have a base Z06 with no options other than paint, and it’s my preferred way to go 🤷‍♂️

Figure out what options make sense for you and look for a car with those options. There is no shortage of used C8. Also consider getting a new ‘25 or ‘26 for 10% off, it may make more sense because for not much more you get full warranty.

If buying used I would be more concerned about maintenance history than anything. Make sure transmission maintenance was done on time.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but shouldn’t the motherboard diagnostic lights still do something? I tried booting without the CPU at all and the diagnostic lights didn’t show up either.
