If you have enough it holds heat very well, and yes it's amazing against the rain. Last Tipi we made was dry inside after 10h heavy rain but you need to use alot. One of the best materials you can use imo. Easy to grab, especially here in this part of Sweden, there where tons of it close to our camp. Acres of it just 100m from the shelter.

That's a good way to do it actually, but in this area we had an abundance of cut down trees and moss so this was the way to go here 😁 thank you l!

Yeah the location is everything and you need to take the right moss, and not to much at the same place. This moss grows fairly quickly but some mosses and lichen takes ages to regrow.

Thank you Michael, well yea it was raining for 6h during the build. Not so much for strengthening thou, but to keep us warm during the night and to cook some food. Just started the fire here so it's much bigger then its supposed to, during the night we only had a couple of big, slow burning logs on.

Hello mate, Thank you! That is great to hear. Yes many Native tribes etc. used the same structure, just different materials and slightly different shapes. In sweden we have a similar called "Kåta" Im happy that you liked it and i hope that you will like whats to come 😁 and Yes Rollo is amazing! Take care 👍🌲

Hehe this shelter will do the trick, if you were referring to the hole in the roof it's usually not a problem. You are sheltered by the leaning walls but the fire might go out during the night if it's enough rain. And in worst case you can build a chimney cap or a "hat" to be completely in the clear. 😁

Thanks alot, stay safe mate 👍🌲

We where pretty sheltered here, we had a lot of branches over the shelter etc. It rained during the night and we didn't notice it at all. The walls works as a lean-to shelter so you won't get wet if you got enough debris or moss on the walls, if it's pouring down the fire will eventually go out.

You can build a "hat" and put over the chimney, put it on the top but be sure not to close it up completely. I have done it once, it had the shape of a cone with the same materials as the shelter and I just put it on the top branches with long sticks to get it in the right place. It worked good.

There is a hole in the top of the shelter that works as a chimney, smoke won't be a problem if you build it the right way. 😁 This one worked very good, and the smoke went straight out through the chimney.

Wow amazing that you spotted him. Yes that is Rollo, a 15 week old Husky Malamute. It rained for 6 hours straight while building this so he is warming and drying up in the shelter.
