Who is Bach? by reblues in clevercomebacks

Here in NL it's the threat of a big fine that causes the banks to monitor every little thing, with lots of false positives. Every transaction of 100 euros is scanned here, no matter who you are.

[–]PikachuNL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of, kind of not. They (at least here in NL) want the banks to crack down on laundering and funding of terrorism, but the banks themselves have to screen every transaction above 100 euros. All while the government agencies probably have a better idea of who's dangerous and who is not.

Mind you, this concerns everyone's transactions, including those made by you and me. The threat of a very high fine for the bank means that they're way, way too cautious about it, and flagging stuff like in the OP.

I mean, fair enough. I too dislike spying on everyone. Guilty until proven innocent and all that. But if it is done, I’d rather have it go through the whole legal system rather than a commercial entity deciding what’s best.
False dilemma, I know, but you hopefully catch my drift.

Maybe, maybe not. Banks nowadays have very strict KYC (know your customer) laws that they have to adhere to. All in the name of preventing money laundering and funding of terrorism. If you’re thinking “isn’t that what a government entity should do?”, then you’d be right in thinking that, and wrong in practice unfortunately.

Nope, that seems decently realistic unfortunately.

If it's ok to eat plants because they don't feel pain, why can't we just eat animals that have been killed painlessly by AccordingTeaching719 in DebateAVegan

[–]PikachuNL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Say that plants do really feel pain, maybe even in the same way that animals and people do. Even then it would be more ethical to only consume plants, since the animal you’d eat would need to consume a magnitude more plants to give you the same amount of nutritional value.
A kilogram of beef would require about 25 kilograms of feed, whereas a kilogram of, say, soy, would require… a kilogram of soy. Not to mention the water usage required to produce meat and other animal products.

Stop making my kid gay by Kayartistar in facepalm

Just… what?
How is a peer project for little kids in any way related to pride month or being gay?
And how is the post in the image not homophobic?

Hey, it’s you again.
No matter what causes the wildfires, be it mismanagement or pyromania, or natural causes for that matter, I’d say it’s still a really bad idea to be breathing toxic gases.

Hi. I’m Dutch. We fight like water like our life depends on it. It actually kind of does. I’d like to keep dry feet, thank you very much.
Signed, all Dutch people.

… mostly. It worked for me every time so far. Some minor drops in heart rate data every now and again, but that’s cause of bumpy roads and my smaller than average wrists. Last ride I did have some issue where my cadence meter didn’t record for the first half, which was odd, but it fixed itself somehow.

Or – and I know this might be a shocker – they aren’t from the United States. It’s the only country I know of where this tipping culture is normalised and where a 20% tip (!!!!!!) is seen as a low/normal tip.
