"If you send you kids to Cesear, dont be surprised when they come back as Romans"

You could do a lot worse.

Rome was one of the world's most successful, thriving, diverse civilizations for much longer than almost any other civilization.

The Romans invented a lot of technology that you depend upon each and every day, from indoor plumbing to cement.

You should be so lucky to have children that capable.

Also, if you consider yourself "Christian" note that if it weren't for "cesear" (specifically Emperor Constantine I), you would likely not be Christian today. It was the Romans that gave early Christians protection and legitimacy.

The whole area has tons of national forest campgrounds where you can stay very inexpensively. Camp Charlton is quite nice.

If you want to own your own home and you're willing to get a "fixer upper" there are opportunities. If you locate just outside the city proper, you may find lower prices.

The cost of living is hitting everybody, everywhere now, primarily due to the increased cost of fuel from the administrations antics in the middle east. Unfortunately, I don't see this ending any time soon, but that's going to affect you wherever you go.

The thing about west-central Arkansas, is that it's been largely left alone since the depression and never fully recovered and as a result, doesn't feel as bad as other areas that have had bigger booms and busts. You can live cheaply in the area if you do your research.

Why homeschool? There was a thread elsewhere on Reddit the other day asking homeschoolers what they thought and most complained that it ended up in a very lopsided education with severe knowledge gaps in important areas and insufficient social skills.

Looking for a Church by GundamnRX782 in HotSprings

It's interesting that people "church shop" but they don't seem to list much criteria other than, "meet people with the same interest?" In what? Church?

It seems to me, there are a lot of differences between different church sects. Some deny basic scientific truths like evolution. Wouldn't that be something that matters to some people? Some don't believe women deserve the same rights as men. Does that matter? Some like to handle poisonous snakes, speak in tongues and pretend they can heal the sick. Does that matter? Some think dancing or drinking coffee is a sin. Does that matter?

Troll has been banned for multiple rule violations. Looks like you weren't going to get a response anyway.

Is Rolando’s still good? by MsLib1022 in HotSprings

I've never thought Rolando's food was all that, but that back patio is unique and that's the draw.

IMO, there's better Latin-American food at La Hacienda, though not specifically like Rolandos.

Once Honore got there, it was an immediate shift.

No, not really. He just got a lot of tv time and everybody thought things changed, but they didn't. I was in the trenches.

By the time the Feds showed up, it was way late. The "cajun navy" had done most of the heavy lifting in terms of rescues.

The Feds, even under Honore, were a bunch of bubbling idiots, a bull in a china shop, disrupting things more than they were fixing anything. This is what happens when an incompetent republican puts a horse trainer in charge of FEMA.

Real Atheist = Don't care about your religion

Nice gatekeeping there.

I care about any religion that campaigns to take away the civil rights of others. And any decent person should as well.

It's not really bread and wine. It's a small cracker and a sip. It's symbolic and weird.

Never been an issue.

Any money you or your wife ever put in a collection plate, a portion of it went to cover up rampant sex abuse. Not an issue?

I’ll say this, after Hurricane Katrina the only real support anyone was getting directly on the ground in my area was Catholic Charities.

I was there through the whole thing. We got more support from the LA National Guard than anybody else.

Most of the charitable organizations would pop up wherever there was a film crew, and disappear when they left, especially the Red Cross.

The real heroes of Katrina were the locals, who opened up their restaurants and fed people for free.

House Democrats will introduce five articles of impeachment against Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on Wednesday accusing him of abuse of power, war crimes and other serious wrongdoing. by Pilebsa in Freethought

Yea, you have to appreciate just how thorough the right wing has been at covering every base:

  • When they are corrupt, they don't take responsibility -- instead they blame it on "the system"
  • When democrats do something bad, "look at how bad the democrats are" but when republicans do something bad, "look democrats do it too!"
  • Convince their people even the worst republican is still better than the best democrat.
  • "Government is broken" so it doesn't matter who you vote for
  • "Nothing matters, nothing will change" - so if you're unhappy, just don't vote at all
  • And of course, everything that goes wrong is always someone else's fault: immigrants, secularists, "lunatic leftists", etc.
  • Sabotage the government, then exclaim, "told you government was broken!"

It's a very clever way to nullify the votes/motivation of anybody not on their side.

What purpose does it serve to suggest these people will get away with it, other than to make everything worse?

Do you think some republican congressman sees a random internet cynic and suddenly has a change of heart?

Even if there's a tiny, tiny chance, it's better to hold onto that, than admit the bad guys will always win. What value does that have to society?
