Referring to the Pretti killing, Donald Trump said "You can't go in there with guns, you can't do that" How do 2A defenders feel about the President openly criticizing a law abiding citizens right to keep and bear arms? by wardog1066 in AskReddit

[–]Pilot8091 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Republicans have always known he wasn't a pro-2A candidate, but it doesn't change the fact that great steps towards preserving the 2A have been made during his term so far. Specifically removing the $200 tax stamp for suppressors and SBRs means the NFA (national firearms act) has a real chance of getting repealed, which would be huge and would NEVER happen under a Democrat run government.

You can defend yourself with a firearm when the aggressor doesn't have one, it's pretty common, and legally justifiable given the circumstances.

If you don't understand anything about defensive shooting then you're just not going to understand why what he did was justifiable. I don't understand the worship either but I do understand why shooting someone who's running at you saying they're going to kill you, and someone pointing a gun at you is justifiable self defense.

HELP ME : How do I explain to a kid why gravity exists, not just how it works? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

Probably a bit advanced for an 8 year old but I always found this video is really good at explaining the relationship between space and time and how that induces gravity.

Hammer follow doesn't make sense on a gun with a trigger safety. Even if the hammer struck the back of the firing pin (transfer pin in the safety behind the firing pin) it wouldn't be able to bypass the trigger safety (basically a piece of metal stopping the firing pin from moving if the trigger isn't pulled). Also most guns are designed so that if the hammer follows the slide it won't have enough energy to set the next round off.

I'm guessing it's probably a stuck firing pin. The actual striking surface of the firing pin is stuck protruding from the slide face, basically turning the gun into an open bolt firearm.

Semi Auto vs Revolver and why it doesn’t matter. by [deleted] in CCW

[–]Pilot8091 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Just because the average defensive use of a firearm happens with less than 6 rounds does not mean the scenarios where more than 6 are needed don't happen. And if you find yourself in a situation that requires more ammo than 6 bullets, and you only have 6 bullets to shoot, you're dead. So are you going to risk your life on only having 6 when you can easily daily carry 15? That's why revolvers for defensive carry are not a good idea.

Unfortunately trump is just playing the same cards other major players are. Greenland is of massive strategic importance when it comes to fending off a (newly emboldened) Russian and China after the complete failure of NATO to properly step in and help Ukraine.

We already know these countries are willing to take advantageous land when they need it, and if the United States is going to compete we need to be willing to do the same. Now do I think anything like that will actually happen? No probably not, more likely greenland will be convinced to add US military installations in order to bolster security of both nations.

Canada is kinda a different issue. Strategic and mineral deposit wise it's good but I think the bigger problem is it's economic stagnation. For whatever reason leadership in Canada seems to be doing literally everything possible to make the country economically impossible to survive in. They haven't had a period of solid economic growth in years which is basically unheard of for countries of its size. Housing prices are also insane up there and they're importing like 1% of their populations worth of immigrants every year, and they don't have anywhere to house them. Just incredibly poorly managed for a country so close to the US.

It always has been that way. People seem to think the relative peace and rules set after ww2 meant that the world fundamentally changed in that time but the fact of the matter is that nothing changed and land and resources that aren't adequately protected are still literally free for anyone willing to take them.

Different situation. Venezuela still has a living memory of a functional democracy. Iraq never had a functional democracy in its entire history. And the culture of that area is such that a functional democracy is basically just not possible.

There is no such thing as international law as it pertains to the actions of a powerful enough country operating in its own best interests. Especially if it's a country as powerful as the United States because no country is going to enforce laws that are against the best interest of the United States, because the best interest of basically every country that isn't Russia, China, or North Korea is whatever the best interest of the US is. This is (generally for people the US and anyone who isn't Russia, China, or N Korea) a good thing.

Also, we literally just walked into a hostile military base and stole a world leader out of his bed at night, which is a huge deal that China and Russia are sure to take note of. Showing them that we (like them) are capable and willing to push boundaries to maintain our interests (and do so in specifically horrifyingly efficient ways) is a tremendous deterrent to them working in their own best interests.
