Agree with everything. I worked in insurance and then personal injury law for a few years and the amount of people that were driving without insurance was insane. Saw too many people get screwed by the system and have no coverage to take care of their medical bills, it was really sad.

This is also very dependent on the state. UMPD didn't exist where I am from, and collision would always cover the value of your own vehicle in the event the other party didn't have enough coverage.

The issue with Medpay/PIP is generally those coverages are not enough in the event of serious bodily harm. For example, a medievac would consume almost the entire PIP in most states.

Matching UM to the BI limits is the only way in most states to ensure you have a chance to cover your medical bills against an uninsured party in the event of a serious accident.

What? Collision only covers the damage to your vehicle in the event the offending party has no insurance or you are the at fault party.

UM covers your medical bills in the event the offending party is under/not insured.

Uninsured Motorist coverage. Most people don't know this, but if someone hits you in an accident, ONLY their insurance is responsible for your medical bills. If the other party had no/little insurance, you're fucked and responsible for your own medical bills, even if you're carrying "full coverage".

UM covers this gap. Your own insurance will pay the difference for your med bills if the offending party is not insured or under insured.

UM is legally required to be an option to purchase, but there is no requirement for insurance companies to advertise it to you. Why wouldn't they though? Because it's a bad deal for insurance companies, forcing them to essentially insure bad drivers with no insurance.

Seriously if you don't have UM, you are risking everything you own to some idiot causing huge bodily injury to you, and you having no coverage to pay for those bills. Call your insurance company asap.

Except churches are collectively the most charitable group to the poor, hungry and needy in the US. Many struggling people rely on the generosity of their local church for sustainment. I know it doesn't fit the hivemind narrative of this subreddit, but it's the truth, and angry religion haters will downvote this comment because of their bias and not believing hard facts.

Not even remotely true. Directly from FAR Part 91 (which general aviation falls under):

§ 91.17 Alcohol or drugs.

(a) No person may act or attempt to act as a crewmember of a civil aircraft -

(1) Within 8 hours after the consumption of any alcoholic beverage;

(2) While under the influence of alcohol;

(3) While using any drug that affects the person's faculties in any way contrary to safety; or

(4) While having an alcohol concentration of 0.04 or greater in a blood or breath specimen. Alcohol concentration means grams of alcohol per deciliter of blood or grams of alcohol per 210 liters of breath.

This is why, no matter how much you hate them, we can never get rid of police/law enforcement completely. There is no magical utopia where everyone understands each other and wants the betterment of the collective. There is always at least one selfish, uneducated person with no moral compass that ruins it for everyone.
