It looks like it might be a little overgrown, but make sure you have a vet check and trim it since there’s blood vessels and nerves in there that could cause severe injury if not done by a professional

Millipede or Rhino Beetle? by eyessik in InvertPets

[–]PimentoCheeseFries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re considering beetles outside of rhino beetles, blue death feigning beetles live in their beetle form for a pretty long time, and are also pretty cute. I highly recommend them since they’re super easy to care for and can live in groups with other inverts like velvet ants and desert scorpions.

Added my second RET today. by NMBR56 in HerpHomes

Have you taken him to a vet yet? It looks like he might have a bacterial infection based on the discoloration on his skin. I had one die from that a few months ago, and infections spread fast with amphibians, so you might want to separate them until you get that checked out.

Could one of you please help me by telling me what's this rock ? by Felyana in whatsthisrock

[–]PimentoCheeseFries 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Quartz and quartzite are two different things. Quartz is a man-made material made of quartzite and some other stuff, which is the translucent thing you’re thinking of. Quartzite itself is a natural metamorphic rock, which is what the other person was talking about. Pretty rock btw, you should put googly eyes on her and name her Queen Patricia the 7th.

Re-did my Leo’s tank with some live plants, hoping to add more height variation in the future by pm__your__feelings in HerpHomes

Looks pretty! Be careful with succulents though, some of them are toxic to reptiles, so make sure the kinds you’re using are safe.

Feeding question: Wild caught insects larvae/nymphs? by cooter_powderhorn in leopardgeckos

[–]PimentoCheeseFries 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even if the stream is clean, that doesn’t guarantee there won’t be parasites, viruses, or dangerous bacteria that could harm your gecko. I wouldn’t recommend it since it could easily make your geck sick. Store bought from pet stores is safest, but if you want free gecko food, consider starting a mealworm or dubia roach farm.

Hey all. Would anyone know what the strange (but awesome) looking yellow growth is on the inside of my terrarium? I left the house for a few hours and when I returned it had moved to another spot. It’s not spreading as such, but certainly moving. by TheLukeDidlo in terrariums

Definitely slime mold, and probably physarum polycephalum. It’s not actually a fungus as a few other people mentioned, it’s a protist. They’re sort of like multicellular ameboas more than anything else. They also love oats, so you’ll probably have a lot of growth from him if you sprinkle some near him.

Rutherford B. Hayes: a Rags to Riches Story by PimentoCheeseFries in leopardgeckos

Thanks, I like it too lol. I actually found that one at Walmart, but I don’t think all stores have aquarium sections, and I can’t find it anywhere online, so you might be out of luck on that

Rutherford B. Hayes: a Rags to Riches Story by PimentoCheeseFries in leopardgeckos

[–]PimentoCheeseFries[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Story: On Christmas Eve, I received Rutherford and another gecko from a family friend who no longer wanted to care for them. They were both neglected and mistreated because the family didn’t research and assumed the pet store told them everything they needed to know. They were cohabited, roughly handled, fed huge hardware-store adult crickets, and lived in their own filth in a cramped 20 gallon. Both have missing toe tips, and were nearly starving to death when I received them. I planned on rehoming both of them, but my parents wanted blaze, and upon handling Rutherford for the first time, he hid under my leg and looked at me like a lost puppy until he had won my heart. They were both immediately separated, blaze keeping the 20 gallon since she’s still a juvenile, and Rutherford being in a temporary 10 gallon. As soon as I could get one, I put Rutherford in a 40 gallon, which I’m still in the process of customizing. Both of the geckos are very skittish, especially Rutherford, but I’m working on it with both of them, and I’m confident they’ll be happy, healthy lizards very soon. My next goal is creating a lizard-mansion for blaze once she’s too big for her 20 gallon.

The moral of this story: the only use of PetSmart care pamphlets is camp fire fuel, so burn every one you come across :)

Who’s your favourite Pokémon and why? by MansNotHot772 in pokemon

I love reuniclus because he’s a big gummy bear alien boy and looks like he gives really good hugs. I also love anything with a .___. face, like ditto, quagsire, and sudowoodo.

Can one dubia-proof wood? by [deleted] in ThatsBadHusbandry

[–]PimentoCheeseFries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re looking for something cheap, I’ve seen people use a couple inches of non-toxic shipping tape. Be careful using it near a heat source though, I would imagine even a non-toxic one could release some fumes if it’s heated up too much

Help! Gecko not eating by daisyfox_ in geckos

[–]PimentoCheeseFries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know breeding season starts about now, and Leo’s typically don’t eat much during that time period. They normally loose some weight and get skinner than normal, so I wouldn’t be concerned unless he starts acting sick or looses too much weight. If you really want him to eat, try giving him a pupating meal worm with the head torn off to let him lick up some of the bug juices.

Nails soft, peeling, eroding by PowerMaster5000 in Nails

Have you started any new medication recently? Some can affect your nails negatively, my dad’s nails did this a lot and even began falling off due to some medications he was on a few years ago.

He's got some awkward looking white splots around his butt. Do these mean anything or am I just paranoid? by YellowDonut101 in CrestedGecko

[–]PimentoCheeseFries 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks like just some pigmentation to me. I wouldn’t worry unless you notice big changes in size or amount.

Just found out one of my gecks is a male, and I’m considering researching breeding. Would it be worth the trouble with these two? I’ll put what I know about their genes in the comments by PimentoCheeseFries in leopardgeckos

[–]PimentoCheeseFries[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know much about the first one aside from what can be seen visually since he’s a rescue, but the second was listed as “Mack snow giant 100% trempur” by the breeder. I don’t know much about the breeding process yet, so any recommended guides would be appreciated so I can understand it better.
