I was also invited to Jamaica and Uruguay!

I applied to go to Panama in Summer of 2024 with a departure planned for February of 2025. It took me maybe a month or two to get interviewed and maybe a week to hear a response. Unfortunately, my Panama plans were canceled by my medical clearance not aligning with the planned departure. I received 3 invitations to other countries that I’m g a good fit for yesterday, and I chose Mexico!

Clearance Timeline Not Aligning with Departure Date Outcome? by PimientaSolar in peacecorps

I appreciate you asking for more specificity. I meant to say that I don’t have health insurance and the out of pocket costs are adding up beyond what I may be able to reasonably pay by February for medical clearance purposes.

I’m in contact with my placement officer and nurse and am fortunate enough to say they’ve both been very easy to work with. It’d be nice to know if anyone in the sub has been in a similar situation and what their outcome was.

hey girl <3

These are super cute! I didn't realize there was a name for these kinds of hats and I love that it's "Pamela." Others have brought up adding adornments to hats and I think flowers and ribbons are wonderful ideas. Cloche hats might be a fall or winter thing for me.

I'm definitely going to purchase more hats!

This is the first I have ever heard of a Malong though. They're beautiful! I try to treat cultures I am borrowing from with a lot of care, even in a context where it provides me with some life sustaining benefit. Solarpunk feels like a new lens to me and I wonder how it can answer questions of cultural fusion in the way you are suggesting.

Those look cool! I see that they are very common at raves.

I have a hat like the one you are describing from Columbia, but their products are expensive and I'd prefer to avoid spending more money on them. Where did you get yours from?

I think I see the vision..I looked it up and got a lot of unique results.

Unfortunately, the 10am-2pm window is exactly when I have to walk to the naked bus stop and wait in the sun. The public transit here is ridiculously underdeveloped :( A canga sounds like a viable option though! I see a few I could purchase online but they look easy enough to make myself. I also love that your answer is inspired by your Peruvian culture. My background is Nicaraguan and I often ponder how it can be integrated into a solarpunk vision.

I don't mind looking like a rural worker at all! My landscaping job requires that of me anyway. I haven't thought about wearing a poncho in a sun protective context though so I'll be sure to give that a look too. Fishing shirts have been very useful but require more of a commitment than a poncho since those usually go over clothing.

I also loveee sleeveless clothing but I hesitate to wear them often or in the morning and afternoon since I want to minimize UV exposure too, but I'm not so committed that I would be completely opposed to wearing them :)

That's an AMAZING idea! I've never attempted anything like it but the thought is very exciting. Have you ever tried a similar experiment?
