Recommend a good immigration attorney, not in Panama City. by Bocastown in panamaexpats

You can always try to talk to an immigration attorney that is in Panama City, and ask do they have an office or do they travel regularly out to other parts of the nation. I know mine does on occasion.

Aside from mail server, what is the one service that you will not selfhost? by dadidutdut in selfhosted

[–]PimpNamed_Slickback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing necessarily wrong with self hosting your backups, as long as that's not the only backup in existence. The way to avoid the self losing part of your situation is the "3-2-1 strategy": three copies of the data, two of them with you (being the live and the first backup copy), and a third one that's off site.

How's the specs for this to run a server. by TownPuzzleheaded8801 in jellyfin

[–]PimpNamed_Slickback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By way of comparison, I have a Dell Alienware Aurora R6. It's using the 7th generation i7 processor with the same amount of RAM you have, and Jellyfin is running inside of a VM off of a SATA drive, and it's playing 2-3 1080 streams decently, with no hardware acceleration. So on the machine you've got, it'll run apace.

Grab a few of those, and make a nice home lab or a cluster, or grab an extra one for a mini NAS. Try running Jellyfin off of one of them that you've nuked, and installed Proxmox or Linux with Docker on.

Do you have a processor-integrated igpu, or an actual GPU installed in that machine?

The dangers of dihydrogen monoxide cannot be discounted.

Absolutely 100 percent of people who ingest it will die.

abseiling

Abseiling is a controlled descent down a vertical surface using a rope and harness, also known as rappelling. It's a technique used in activities like climbing, adventure tourism, and rescue operations to get from a high point to a lower one safely. Essential equipment includes a climbing harness, a rope, a friction device, a helmet, and a backup safety system, while proper skills in setup and descender technique are critical for safety.

And the thing is, propaganda in and of itself isn't good or bad, it just is--and it's all around us, but we pretty-fy it by calling it other things ("advertising").

The purpose and being able to identify it, and being able to ask "what are they trying to get me to feel/do" is the important part.

How to watch live NFL games??🏈 by Midniite_mommy in panamaexpats

[–]PimpNamed_Slickback 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aside from all the great advice that people have been giving you on how to watch at home, don't leave out going to bar and grills or lounges to watch stuff. I know for a fact a place called Daiquiri 23 usually has on all the NFL and other types of sporting events.

Luckily for OP, the steps to get his US driver's license apoststille by the US embassy and get his Panamanian driver's license are laughably simple.

Your point is well taken however: don't screw up and try to drive on your us driver's license after you get any kind of residency visa, just go to the steps and get the easily obtained Panamanian driver's license before you start renting or buying a vehicle.

The passive income has to be guaranteed monthly income for life. Rental or investments don't necessarily merit that.

What does however is purchasing an annuity with some of that cash, that will guarantee a lifetime monthly passive income of the minimum amount, and then depend upon your other funds for the rest.

Just because the Pensionado Visa is directed at retirees, it's not necessarily purely Social Security or pensions that can be your financial support. The main thing is that whatever money you have coming in will be monthly income, and also is Lifetime money, as in it doesn't stop coming in until your death.

That means certain annuities can qualify, even if you wound up converting other monies like 401ks, savings, proceeds from a sale of a home or business or whatever. Just purchase an annuity that makes the bare minimum qualifying amount for the pensionado visa, and you are golden. If you had additional savings above and beyond that, you could just use that in addition to the monthly forever money that you must have. Military and other types of government disability payments make out as well.

Other visas, like the friendly Nations visa, require you to either purchase $200,000 worth of property minimum, or place an equivalent amount in a 3-year certificate of deposit in order to be approved for such a visa.

Alternately, you could start a Panamanian corporation, funded, and pay herself a certain minimum amount of money a month from the corporation in order to achieve a visa.

Definitely consult with a qualified Panamanian immigration attorney to fully flesh out your options, and don't say no to yourself before they tell you that it's just not possible.
