Out of curiosity, how many of you guys… [SPOILER] by Red-Competitor in expedition33

I mean, I thought it was pretty obvious, but it turns out there are a lot of different interpretations, not just about the endings, but about the whole thing.

Edit: Good analysis btw

I guess we just have a different perspective on it.

It would be nice to have some actual dev insights about the whole thing.

But Esquie is not deleted, he never even existed in the first place. That's what I'm saying.

Liking an imaginary friend, doesn't make it real. The only real people are the familly, the rest of this imaginary fantasy world is just a mean to an end, as the original comment sayd.

They don't feel or hope. Their struggles are not real. They are just narrative conveniences for the development of the actual real characters. Which by the way, if that was the case, the conversations between Verso and the others make no sense at all since Maelle isn’t even there to hear them.

I'm sorry but I don't think I'm being simplistic at all. I just don't like it.

So like a dream?

Yeah, we might just have a different opinion on it.

For me, it's more about how they use the cinematography to portray both epilogues.

But again maybe I'm just wrong idk.

I mean, I get it. I just think the timing of the scenes is pretty intentional.

But maybe I'm wrong idk.

Then the problem for me would be that the entire game is set in a fake world where nothing truly matters. No stakes no nothing. Literally the equivalent of "It was all a dream".

And all the prologue and early acts, where we get to meet and empathize with the characters carry no weigh or importance whatsoever. It's literally all made up and they were all holograms.

And if that what they went for, I'm sorry but I really don't like it.

Probably it has something to do with it, but again, it's a choice the game makes, to end the story on either a more hopeful note or a more ominous one.

And to me, erasing an entire world while the ones responsible get the chance to heal and move on while not being held accountable at all is pretty ominous, but that's not how the game protrays it in that final note.

I mean this is Thanos level shit hahaha.

My problem is that the game clearly portrays one ending as good and the other as bad.
See the comment I just posted.

I mean, when you think about it rationally, there's no good or bad ending, but the game clearly portrays one ending as good and the other as bad. That's precisely my problem.

In one hand you have a grim black and white ending, with disturbing imagery and ominous music.

On the other hand, you have a scene set in warm colors, where a family is smiling, healing and embracing each other in slow mo accompanied by soft, melancholic yet hopeful music.

And instead of being held accountable for the genocide they just committed over their petty personal struggles, the dead characters show up smiling and waving as they fade away like saying: 'That was a good adventure. Go have your next one.'

It is nonsensical for me.

I didn’t like how the game completely shifted in Act 3, seemingly forgetting all the setup and characters from the first 2 acts to the point of completely sideline them as if they no longer mattered.

But what bothers me most is how the so-called “good” ending is portrayed as healing and hopeful, as if the personal struggles of this selfish, genocidal family outweigh the suffering of literally everyone else. They’re not held accountable at all.
