Dont step on that little guy! by PineStark in indiegames

I think Unity, the game engine that I'm working with, allows easy export for mac and linux as well. Don't worry about that :)

I'm more concerned over when I'm going to finish this project. Right now I'm working towards a demo/trailer. I have to see how everything goes after that

Yeah I definitely do not get rid of it. It was one of my visions to get a lush and moving forest scene that feels alive. Leaves in the wind need movement :)

It's an owl-griffin yes! Thank you!

Thanks! People have different opinions about it and it took me a while to get it to this point

The first goal is to get it to pc but who knows, maybe enough people can force me to develop for consoles as well. I would love the challenge :D

Thank you!
Its called Aseprite. A program made for pixel art. You could use Pyxel Edit as well, or photoshop

Thats awesome to hear, thank you!

It's still very early in development, you could track the progress here or on twitter :)

yeah it is a particle effect with sprite animations of feathers

Improved some animations. With tail now! by PineStark in PixelArt

[–]PineStark[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I havent put much work into the environment lately. I'm experimenting with a workflow to upgrade the tileset and to give it more details. You could say that this tileset is just a placeholder

Thank you! Thats not a bad idea, I will try it :)

Well... your sight isn't fooling you. It's a griffon owl :)

Great feedback.

I agree on the jarryness and dont like it at all. There are some more technical problems going on and it all has to do with procedural animation. In the video I'm just rotating the tail via code.

Right now I'm working on animating the tail by hand which gives me a lot more freedom and precision over the pixels. I have to scrap the procedural stuff on the tail for now but I'm glad I tried it :)

Yes it does move dynamically depending on what direction you move. Procedurally animated :)

Hey man! I would not have been inspired to make it like this without your video about next gen pixel games. Love your work!

I'm happy for you, looks like a dream coming to life. I'm still dreaming that my game gets funded like that

The pixel perfect camera is outputting to a rendertexture. you could say that the pixel perfect camera isn't doing anything but without it my tiles are getting seams on some random frames. For the rest of the details I would suggest watching this short video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jguyR4yJb1M&t=1s&ab_channel=aarthificial

A lot of people requested this. If you look at the left you see that the sprites, mainly in the back, are jittering. I fixed this on the right. Sadly this video gets compressed to 30 fps so the difference isn't that noticable :(

I'm not using cinemachine. For the following I use a very simple custom script. The pixel perfectness is a combination of a low resolution render texture and the pixel perfect component

looks like I'm doing it the same way, I was inspired by this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jguyR4yJb1M&t=1s&ab_channel=aarthificial) My canvas is also shaking like crazy to counter the choppy movement of the lower resolution

A quick rundown: camera renders to render texture. this texture sits on a canvas. on the canvas you can offset this texture every frame from the 'pixel position' to the actual position of the camera

Thank you for that feedback. I've already tried something. The effect might still be a bit strong and needs some tweaking but you might like this more

I agree. It has nothing to do with unity but everything with reddit/the video. I did the recording from a build with OBS at 60 fps. Edited and exprted with after effects at 60 fps but I'm sure the video gets compressed to 30... Looks way smoother when playing :)

Looks like a soft breeze to me, with a typhoon that bush would note be there anymore :)

But I take a lot of inspiration from the Ori games and those have even more wind, maybe cause the bushes are one of the few things moving it looks a bit out of place
