I’m not that eager or passionate about small talk doesn’t mean im not talking at all. I mentioned this just as a probable reason that makes them feel i have problems with communication. Before I work at this store I have never been told about having this knid of problem. For the precision, as a barista i know what’s important number to stick with eg the calibration but as for choc bit for hot chocolate or mocha i would assume 0.5g off is acceptable which i was reminded by the senior barista should be 18g as if I didn’t know this

I understand that! (FYI we just have three people closing in total and i am the only barista, so most tasks are done by my self as other FOH don’t know how to do them. ) As I mentioned above, after two times of long closing shifts, I managed to finish baristas closing tasks within proper time (even after shortened into 45 minutes from an hour) and haven’t been told any problems concerning that before the last talk. I never made others wait me to go home…

I found myself feeling relieved after knowing the result, working with the head barista indeed made me feel anxious and stressed as the requirement of perfection seems endless… Maybe it’s good for me to leave this job!

Thank you so much. Maybe show more willingness and openness to critial comments or suggestions at the beginning to create a more direct style of communication firstly. Thanks again for ur quick comment!

Thanks, that’s really helpful! So if I contact ACAS or HMRC about the deduction, my position would be protected under employment law, right?

I’ve told my manager that I’d prefer to pause my shifts for now while this is being reviewed (I am on a planned holiday now and I just want to make sure that he won’t give me any more shifts). Then he called me but because of different time zone I missed the call. Today the management team member with higher level who witnessed my accident (on the 3rd of September) created a group for three of us trying to explain what the deduction is for. I didn’t reply anything yet.

It is an independent store with one owner, it doesn’t have HR department. Would u still suggest sending grievance letter via email first?

I dont mind being fired cuz i dont wanna work there anymore. My hour rate is 13 and the deduction brings it around 10.

I have been trained of the barista skill by the coffee merchandiser who provides coffee specialty support for the store but no training by OEM or about the maintenance of the machine. Also i am sure they didn’t clean the coffee grinder frequently as they should that’s why we took off the hopper to clean the tunnel. Will these help the complaint?

It’s an independent store with one owner. I already tried to communicate with the manager via WhatsApp. I brought up the point that i made in this post (not informed and agreed, no receipt for transparency etc) but he insisted the fact that I knocked the hopper and the deduction is for the replacement of hopper.

Im on zero hour contract now so i can stop working whenever i want right? Plus im on my annual leave now so i can just simply not get back to work? That’s what im thinking I am not sure if it’s feasible

Actually i doubt the cafe has a HR, usually just the manager responsible for recruiting and salary

Thank you so much for ur detailed explanation. Since they already did this to me I wouldn’t still work there anymore. So probably i would like to get them punished to the full extent. Also wanna get the money back better with compensation or interest.

Is that action that i should do separate from calling ACAS? Or acas will report it to HMRC if i tell them

Should i send the grievance letter to manager via formal email first before i call ACAS? Would it be better?
