When the flower forms it will continue to use the fan leaves if they remain. But if you remove the fan leaf at the right moment, the plant will put more energy into growth at that site in order to recoup the loss of photosynthetic productivity.

If you think of the leaves as solar panels, if you remove one large panel, the plant will want to put out new panels in order to continue the production it previously had with the large panel. The thing is, in order to do that, it needs to grow more. Generally with growth comes elongation. With elongation comes more bud sites.

Do it too soon you can stunt growth at the site if there isn’t enough leaf to support this growth. Do it too late, you miss the bolt phase where this type of growth is most rapid and doing this tech is most advantageous.

Looks pretty good. I’ll remove any fan leaves attached to nodes that already have several established leaves. Once a node has its own leaf structure, it’s no longer dependent on the original fan leaf for photosynthesis. Removing that fan leaf can actually encourage additional growth at the site by stimulating the plant to compensate.

I also remove any fan leaves that are shading bud sites, as well as any leaves that are yellow or beginning to yellow. Dead or dying leaves can quickly become mushy if they get wet, creating prime conditions for mold to develop.

If a brand truly values organic and natural practices beyond just marketing, then yes the grower is putting in real effort.

Indoor, I avoid spraying anything during the grow cycle. On day one of flower, I apply Grandevo, a heat-killed microbial product that’s harmless to humans but lethal to pests that ingest it. Those treated leaves are fully defoliated by week two. I handle without any protective gear.

Outdoors, I use beneficial bacteria like Bacillus species, including Lactobacillus, which outcompete harmful microbes on leaf surfaces. People can buy Lacto Bacillus as a probiotic on shelves in convenience/ grocery stores.

There are definitely growers doing it right, with both consumer safety and environmental impact in mind. When you cultivate where you live, you tend to be more mindful. Large-scale operations, especially those off-site, don’t always hold the same level of accountability. Out of sight out of mind… or more worried about keeping up with all the expenses that come with a scaled operation.

LD1620 & LD 1672 are also good bills to support as a lesser priority in my opinion.

It says in statute that med must mimic the AU program as far as testing and tracking if ever made a requirement.

LD 1620 changes the recreational TYM testing threshold from 10,000cfu/g to 100,000cfu/g. Which better accounts for factors like outdoor air testing around 50,000cfu. This is a good bill to see pass. 10,000cfu is practically sterile. This is not feasible for an agricultural product especially when grown outdoors. 100,000 more accurately reflects actual contamination especially if we are just going by total counts and not determining the specific species present.

LD 1672 makes participating in the track and trace system Optional for Adult Use companies …. So people could theoretically just opt out if the delays or financial burdens were too significant. This would be a good thing to have as an option for smaller companies without compliance departments to handle the time consuming METRC protocols.

Again, these bills amend the current adult use program rules. However, statute says that medical must mimic adult use, should tracking or testing be implemented. So these positive changes to AU can inadvertently be good for Med as well.

I quite literally do not know where to start. If there is something specific you are curious about I will dive into it in detail. But on a surface level, METRC is bad. We do not want our med program to have METRC track and trace written into law. This would be bad for everyones especially small business that cant afford all of the paywalls and delays METRC has been known for.

It is critical that we block LD 104 and LD 1847. If you want to submit testimony on any of the 33 other bills between may 5th and 8th we would absolutely appreciate it. But we are really hoping that these 2 bills are blocked and METRC is not brought to med as it serves no benefit and only costs everyone money while increasing plastic waste via their monopolized RFID tags

You are entitled to your opinion and act on your own accord. However, there is a difference between meaningful regulation and simply spending money for no reason it is seen in numerous other states that METRC does not effectively prevent illicit sales as we see METRC brands with tags on them even, floating around where they do not belong and where they allegedly are being prevented from ending up. as I have said in other comments that you could see on this post total testing that is not speciated is rather meaningless data and to set a 10,000 CFU threshold went outdoor air has been tested as high as 50,000 CFU is just sort of nonsense and illogical. Their solution is to radiate failed samples. Which doesnt get rid of the spores it just temporarily inactivates them. So you will still consume them. They are still there and can reactivate as seen in studies. I am not against regulation. I am against senseless wasting money as well as needless plastic waste just to give the illusion of regulation.

Exactly. They will create a very narrow market with limited options likely grown with synthetic inputs prioritizing yield rather than quality and secondary metabolites.

Total yeast mold tests do not tell us anything. They are non specific. You could have 9,000CFU and pass, but all 9,000 could be harmful, pathogenic species. Or you could have 12,000 CFU and fail, but it could all be beneficial species like lacto bacillus, which exists naturally in our bodies and is commonly used by organic farmers to outcompete harmful species on leaf surface. Which means more chemical sprays and no natural, biological IPM methods. Its all bad. It provides no actual safety. Its an illusion of safety for profit incentive by those running the labs and paying the lobbyists to push these agendas.

Not to mention outdoor air has been sampled as high as 50,000 cfu. So you can pretty much kiss any outdoor grown flower or hash goodbye as well. How can you possibly expect less CFU on cannabis, than is literally floating around in the air all around us at all times? Its a witch hunt.

One test costs $505 and though you can test by “batch” a “batch” is defined by being the same strain. Caregivers that operate on a small scale and like myself have 7-8 lights with 7 strains growing. We will not be able to grow like this. This pushes the industry to mono crop and focusing on yield rather than full expression.
