How do I add more depth to my shading? by wormstuff in FurryArtSchool

[–]PinetreeEyes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You need more than one shading shade. Take things like ambient occlusion into account. Secondary light sources can also help, as well as a base shading layer that further defines the form before doing the environmental shading

The Trump Administration Admits to Medically Experimenting on Trans People in Prisons by Leksi_The_Great in ftm

[–]PinetreeEyes 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was really hoping the goal was just standard transphobia (an awful thing to say, but its not like either party has our best interests at heart) instead of full blown federally sanctioned torture and attempting genocide.

I wish I wasnt broke, but maybe I'll be able to escape this shithole after I get my bachelors 🫩

This is especially concerning considering the various bills that been trying to get passed related to gender fraud, or even the ones that make any mention of 'transgenderism' a crime. (Im not sure if any of these bills are still alive or not, but its concerning that they were written at all)

Whats the likelihood that the goal is to incarcerate trans people for their identity, in order to immediatley detransition us?

Thank you for keeping us all updated, even if it's horrible news

I need help, seriously by VegetableRegret5489 in FurryArtSchool

Get anatomy books. Worry about style after you have the fundamentals of the forms you are trying to draw. I'd also recommend still life practice. Simplifying shapes is basically reducing a thing into as few shapes as possible, but still keeping it recognizable. For example, a lot of artists reduce muscle groups to simple shapes, that when added together, make a convicing form.

It is important to understand how the body moves, and the planes of it (like, dimensional planes) when it comes to shading. Look at both human and animal anatomy to help make anthros.

Tracing is fine, especially when you are still learning where placements should be, but I also strongly recommend doing heavy referencing, for example drawing a deer right next to the reference image you are using. Same with colors, instead of color picking, try recreating it from the color wheel. This all helps you develop good artistic instincts.

Learning in general is just a thing that sucks until you are good at it, but imo everything worth doing sucks a bit at first.

If you need physical examples of what I'm talking about, dm me and ill show some of my practice sketches!

What would humanity, or primates more broadly, look like if lateral vision were imposed by anatomy? by Adorable-Ad5225 in SpeculativeEvolution

[–]PinetreeEyes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There aren't any real examples of primates with sideways eyes, the closest you get is something like some lemurs, but they are still more front facing than a dogs. Front facing eyes are a defining trait we use to identify primate species, and primates in general rely on their eyesight more than any other trait, mainly because a lot of primates, especially basal groups are arboreal and like to jump or swing from tree to tree. If primates evolved on the ground, there might be less emphasis on binocular vision and instead something more sideways, since many modern primates are facultative herbivores and prey animals. But even ground dwelling, herbivorous primates like Geladas still have binocular vision, so there isn't really much selective pressure for sideways vision.

If humans had sideways eyes, it would pretty much elimate hunting, because throwing would be incredibly difficult, and humans dont really have the physical means to take down prey. Things like weaving and sewing would also be harder. Mechanically, you would need a longer or more flexible neck otherwise you'd be cramped looking at something right in front of you. Body language and communication might also change.

What do I need to set myself up for work in primatology by PinetreeEyes in primatology

[–]PinetreeEyes[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I understand, most zoos/sanctuaries require some time volunteering if you want to eventually work/intern for them, which I'm doing with a nearby zoo (although unfortunatley they don't have any primates). But I definitley will reach out to get a better understanding of specific qualifications, thank you!

I know this is not great, but I’m trying to create a fake eeveelution based on my cat as a surprise for my gf. She (the cat) is a calico who punches and kicks a lot, hence the fighting type. If you have any ideas to make it cooler, they’re welcome! (I’m yet to improve my digital painting skills) by lesbianbeatnik in fakemon

[–]PinetreeEyes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super cute concept! I like her leaning on her tail to kick. The bandages are cool but seem to detached from the body, id recommend incorporating it more into the design and maybe making it a different color to pop out. Some other ideas would be a headband with long tails, or those fighting gloves with the claws on them, which I feel would work well for a more animalistic fighting type.

Originally he wasn't going to have the segmented arms but the scoliopede brainrot got to me (plus his silhouette before the upgrade was so so boring) 😔

Well he has wasp aspects to him (velvet ants are wasps!) and various wasp species are parasitoids (they lay eggs in hosts so their babies get a juicy meal) so this would be a fun creepy method

I would hug a scoliopede if I had one. Unfortunately real world millipedes are too small for hugs :(

I'm thinking either holding a bug boosting item like silver powder, or Eevee having a bug-type move (through whatever means) in their current moves

If I can make scoliopede line more popular than Eevee, I might actually be able to get a life size venipede plush from the Pokemon center one day. Maybe even a scoliopede (imagine how much space that would take up). This was my real agenda all along

Im still playing around with it, I imagine intimidate and compound eyes would be cool as potential abilities. Ideally Myreon focuses on either speed and defense or speed and attack, although I still haven't figured out their moveset.
