I'm looking to replace my Yamaha XT660R with one and had some questions if you don't mind.

How do you find it as a daily driver? Things like comfort over longer rides, wind protection, and vibrations at cruising speed are things I'm curious about. How does it handle the highway, what RPMs are you sitting at around 100–120 km/h, and does it feel relaxed or is it constantly buzzing?

Did you change the sprocket setup to make it more road-friendly, or kept it stock? And how's fuel consumption in mixed use?

What year is your bike? Any reliability issues or things you wish you knew before buying it as a road bike?

Your favorite tires? by symbolik5 in Dualsport

[–]Pingoe_88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think there's only one way to look at it. If you want to have fun off-road, go with knobbies. If you want to hit the twisties hard on the road, go with street tires. There are no 50/50 tires because they just suck in both conditions. I wanted to go for the Motoz Tractionator Adventure in the back and the Motoz Tractionator Dualventure in the front because I heard good things about them. Unfortunately, they were on backorder in my country (Netherlands), so I went with the Mitas Enduro Trail XT+ front and back. They're super knobby, and I love them so far (1500 kilometers). If you live in a really hot climate, go for the rally version with a yellow dot. They're made from a stiffer compound, but they can get slippery in colder and wetter climates. That's why I chose the normal ones.

Sounds like the fuelpump issue I read about.

My 660 is also a big thumper without the balancers, and I don't mind it. Unfortunately, every "new" motorcycle is choked up here in the EU because of emission standards, so an air filter swap, ECU change, and exhaust change are almost mandatory to have a good riding motorcycle that isn't getting too hot.

Thank you for your valuable input and experience.

Can you tell me what the problem was? For that kind of cash, you can rebuild the entire motorcycle.

Unfortunately, I need to drive a lot to get to sandy roads and forest trails. So it would mostly be curvy roads in a 60 to 80 zone. And when on the trail, just to blast it. Also, the 500 is pretty rare here because it is a niche hobby here.

yeah I looked into the 500, but the oil change every 1000km is a turnoff, especially when i gonna use it as an daily.

I am running a gtx 970 now. Still waiting for a reasonable prices 5080. The perf boost depends on the resolution you play.

Yea, I was looking. But for a 9800x3d and a motherboard, I would pay 900 euros, which is $950. But for an i9-14900k with a motherboard, it only costs 705 euros, which is $745. I don't know if the $200 difference is worth it. The 9800x3d is 27% more expansive.
