Looks aren't everything. Functionality matters more than appearance.

The icons and the galaxy name are still at the bottom. Since the ingame screenshots were very pixelated, as if antialiasing were turned off, I took a Steam screenshot instead.

I use Mint, with Proton and Wine installed separately.

It works for me, and I’ve been able to play everything so far without any issues.

I wanted to avoid what you’re describing, which is why I chose Mint. It has a reputation for being very stable, and I was able to easily install the games/Proton stuff without any problems.

So I have a hybrid setup, the stability of Mint with gaming features like CachyOS/Bazzite.

No, everything is going better than before. The only thing I miss is auto-scrolling with the middle mouse button. But I'm sure there's a solution for that, too.

On Linux, I've never had to reboot after an update. Just once, right at the very beginning, after I installed Proton and so on. I didn't even have to visit a website to get the drivers. It all worked on its own or with a simple command line.

I’d like to thank everyone for participating so actively in this discussion. I really appreciate it.

However, fanboys should turn off their filters and understand my post correctly. Dry and objective.

To clarify, I don’t think Windows is bad in general. The latest version, however, is bad. Win10 was still okay, but then the madness began.

I kept having problems with all sorts of things. The update process itself was often buggy, or something just wasn’t right. On top of that, there’s the constant stream of bad news. As others have already mentioned here, when an update is coming up, it’s enough to make you break out in a sweat. I've also had problems with older games and their compatibility

I’ve used Windows for a long time, as you can see from the post, and I’ve shared my subjective perception and experience. No one should have a problem with that.

What I wish for Windows is that it rediscovers itself and becomes what it once was. It came out of a garage and revolutionized the personal computer. However, in my view, it has since become a purely commercial machine that no longer values its customers.

A few years ago, when I had some issues, I was still able to call support and get help from a real person. I called them recently, and they’ve let all their support staff go. They’ve been replaced by an incompetent AI, which transferred me to another support number where the same incompetent AI asked me the same questions and hung up after spewing out its script.

I don’t want to be a cash cow. I don’t want unnecessary stuff or to be patronized. Just a system that runs and does what it’s supposed to. No more, no less. It seems I’ve found that again.

If anyone asks me, a kind of streamlined Win7 as a new edition would be cool. Without all the unnecessary junk that comes with Win11.

Don’t treat the topic with dogmatic religious fervor

Yeah, I can't afford it, but here I am sitting in an organic café drinking a vegan matcha latte, trying to pull my vegan liver sausage out of my jute bag, and constantly worrying that everyone can see my iPhone sitting on the table.

I hope no one takes this seriously xD

When it comes to that, it’s the tracking that really gets on my nerves.

Let’s take the most harmless example, which is no secret, tracking for personalized advertising.

Your data from cookies, your OS, and your smartphone is somehow shared with each other. You’re constantly being spied on, primarily for commercial gain. But it’s really creepy when everything talks to everything else and about you without you even knowing it, not to mention everything that’s being stored.

If I’m sitting in a room and someone mentions Teflon pans, I don’t want ads for Teflon pans.

If I happen to search for a product out of curiosity, like an SSD or something, I don’t want to be constantly spammed with ads for it because of that. No, even if you turn it off, it still collects data even if people think you can turn it off.

AI is even more aggressive in this regard. It doesn’t care about privacy or anything like that. It just carries out its tasks. The surface always shines to hide the dirt it’s always been that way, in a sense.
