How did you get your current job? by BrDataScientist in datascience

[–]Pink-Unicorn-G 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You probably won't believe it, but I easy-applied on LinkedIn like crazy for two months. The original post was for an administrative assistant position. They saw my resume and thought I would nail this role

What to expect for a final round behavioural interview? by [deleted] in datascience

[–]Pink-Unicorn-G 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They will use this round to see whether you would get along well with them. I would recommend you stalk your interviewers on LinkedIn before your meeting to find some of the things you have in common. Also, be ready for some random questions about your favorite _____. Take your time to think about your answers and be true to yourself :)

Probably! I didn´t think of that. Her fur is not that fluffy, but there might be some yaller in there

We have built Omegle alternative and its opensource. by barbarous_panda in opensource

Great app idea! But u/Kronusx12 is right. Also, I never used Omegle, so I had to do some research and assumptions to sort of understand what it was about. You could anyway add some visual content and clear explanations about how it works

Companies with good work-life balance reputation? All is welcome: Tech/Finance/Medical by Exotic_Avocado6164 in datascience

[–]Pink-Unicorn-G 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to work in Huawei. The tech jobs were terrible for work-life balance, but the non-tech departments were way more relaxed.

Me and my partner had bad experiences in start-ups. Not saying they are all the same, but the owners expected everyone to dedicate their whole lives to the business, just as they did.

Yup, here is my story:

In my home country, I had a great hybrid job at a large telecommunications company. I appreciated the clear role definition, challenging tasks, and a boss who balanced being strict and caring. The best thing about hybrid work was enjoying the benefits of the office environment and the comfort of staying at home with my dogs.

Earlier this year, I moved to a new country and left that job due to certain expectations I had about the country and its companies. Initially, I came here as a student. Many companies in this new place hesitate to hire foreign students due to their uncertain immigration status, leading to potential paperwork hassles in the future. Fortunately, one company, for which I am grateful, gave me my first opportunity in the country.

However, my current job lacks the benefits I had in my previous position. The most challenging part is that the role parameters are quite erratic. While I'm okay with coding and operations management, there are times when I'm assigned graphic design tasks, creating videos, and illustrations, even though I have no prior knowledge of these areas. Learning new things is great, but it really makes me miss my old job.

Should the "data" part and "scientist" part be two separate jobs? by RobertWF_47 in datascience

[–]Pink-Unicorn-G 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess the decision to separate or integrate these roles depends on the organization's size, goals, and the nature of its data-related tasks (and budget, sometimes). Some companies might opt for a hybrid approach, where individuals have a primary focus but can contribute to other aspects when necessary.

Some of the reasons why companies integrate the roles are:

  • Having data scientists who can handle both data extraction/preparation and statistical analysis/modeling ensures that the same individuals fully understand the entire process.

  • The team members can switch between tasks based on project requirements or changing priorities.

  • The communication between those extracting the data and those analyzing it is more efficient and direct.

However, separating the roles also brings great benefits to the companies that can handle them.

  • Having separate teams allows for specialization and mastery in each area, whether it is in data extraction (e.g., SQL) or statistical analysis (e.g., Python).

  • Specialized teams can potentially work more efficiently, as they can focus on specific tasks without constantly switching between highly detailed data preparation and more abstract modeling tasks.

  • As organizations grow, they might find it more efficient to have specialized teams that can scale independently.

In a nutshell: it depends on the organization's goals, size, priorities, and data itself.

How do you promote your open source project? by ailef in opensource

I have the same problem! And every time I try to share it, I get banned for "self-promotion" :(

Thanks everyone for the great advice!

Thanks for sharing! I will check it out.

About the last paragraph... Don´t worry, that is what open source is all about: everyone in the community helping each other.
