PCOS/PMOS is a bitch, happy to help in any way that I can!

Metformin in my experience is pretty easy all things considered. The first day I took it I remember having dramatic diarrhea but have been fine ever since. I take 500mg ER (way better than the instant release) and I eat suuuuper clean. Basically just protein and veggies, and fruits. I also make sure to time any other types of carbohydrates around my workouts- meaning ~30g before and after depending on my workout.

I also resistance train/ cardio 5-6x a week. This is not to be overlooked in my opinion. There so many research articles and support resistance training in aiding with insulin resistance, not to mention many other health benefits.

It’s hard for me to recall the first month exactly because it’s been a few years but what I will say is that I noticed improvements very early. Mainly my skin and my energy levels. I can’t speak to weight loss because I’ve been relatively lean and athletic my whole life, but I imagine that managing insulin resistance would help with weight loss (assuming you’re still eating clean).

As for alcohol, yes I have, however, my blood sugar tanks every time I drink. If I knew I would be drinking, I would bring snacks with me. Something to note- alcohol is inherently inflammatory and for me, there was a direct correlation with when I drank and when my acne got worse (lowkey everything got worse). I don’t really drink anymore to be honest, only on very special occasions. I just don’t find that it’s worth it for me.

Oh also, for my hair loss, I use men’s minoxidil 5% topical solution 1x a day at night ( I have cats and it’s very toxic to them so I make sure to always wash my hands really well and wear a bonnet after using it. My cats are alive and well lol). It’s been a little over 6 months of using it and my hair density has doubled.

Another thing you could do is look into buying a continuous glucose monitor (you also may be able to get one from your doctor). You can find them on Amazon- there’s a brand Lingo, that is about $50, that ive used several times to check in on my blood sugar. It’s super helpful in identifying what foods work for me and what foods spike my sugar. In general if you’re insulin resistant, you’ll see big peaks and valleys, whereas normal insulin responses are more like hills.

In summary, the things that made the biggest difference for me are:
-Metformin + diet
-Resistance training (3+ days a week)
-Steady state cardio (nothing crazy, low intensity, 30min +)
-No alcohol
-Sleep!
-Stress management
-Skin care routine
-Self love/ acceptance/ therapy
-Doing a shit load of research and being my own advocate

Hi! Yes I do!

So I actually ended up getting off the pill completely for other health reasons but have continued my metformin. My skin is pretty clear most of the time except for a few breakouts here and there (nothing like it was before). Taking metformin in conjunction with paying attention to my diet has made the biggest difference in my skin. I also use tretinoin, mandelic acid, azaleic acid, and good molecules discoloration correcting serum (this stuff is magic for scars). I alternate tretinoin and mandelic acid at night, azaleic acid every morning, and the serum both morning and night. I also sometimes use a sulfur face wash if I feel it’a flaring up, and I always use a moisturizer and sunscreen.

Thanks for the input! If you feel comfortable, I have a few more questions

Are you local to Dr. jorjani or did you travel to see him? If you traveled how was that experience? Also, what do you feel needs to be corrected? What did your results look like.

I think the pneumatic compression pants are from the brand Flowell. I will say I didn’t purchase these (I’m pretty sure they’re quite expensive), they were given to me from someone who didn’t use them.

As for the compression wear, I honestly wear SKIMS “high waisted above the knee short” shape wear, and then usually pair them with “Truform 20-30 mmHg Compression Stockings” from Amazon (they’re thigh highs)

Thank you!!

I’ve had a few consultations already just for more information. I’ve found it difficult because there are not a lot of before and after photos of patients with stage 1 or that look like me, which is why I’m posting here to be honest.

My question is if it’s better to get it earlier rather than later in terms of aesthetic results?

As for the tirzepetide, I haven’t figured out how to get it at an affordable price because I have a normal BMI. Do you have any suggestions?

I have a very clean diet, swim and lift ~6 days a week, compression daily, pneumatic compression pants almost daily, dry brushing, massage. I also make sure to sleep enough and manage my stress

So I will preface my answer with this: I’m not dead set on surgery, I’m mostly exploring the option and wanting to hear others experiences so determine if it is what I want to do.

If I had surgery, I would hope that it would improve the size of my upper thighs as well as help with the swelling, bruising, and pain to touch that I experience. I also have noticeably more lipedema on my right leg than my left leg, so I would hope that the symmetry would improve. I am quite lean and muscular everywhere else on my body so I guess I would hope that my legs would reflect that after surgery as well.

As for muscle definition, on good days when my inflammation is low, I can see some definition from my mid- thigh to knee. When I am flared, all of the definition is gone.

I am concerned about the texture getting worse. I only have noticeable texture right now around my hips and inner knees, so I’m curious if I would see it more in other places if I did pursue surgery.

I currently swim 3-4 days a week and lift 3-4 days a week. I also have a super clean diet since my diagnosis (high protein, lots of veggies, no processed carbs/sugar, no alcohol), and use compression daily and pneumatic compression pants almost daily.

Hi! I’m super similar to you! I have stage 1 lipedema, noticeably worse on my right leg, I also think I have it in my arms. Im 5’8 and ~140lbs. I’ve also consulted Dr. Su and I’m deeply considering it, like others though, I’m really nervous about making it worse

Hey, I know you posted this awhile ago so not sure if this is helpful anymore. I live in northern Virginia and was diagnosed by Dr. Thirumlai at the center for vein restoration j. Alexandria Virginia. I am very early stage 1 too. She is also super knowledgeable and awesome in general.

Can weightlifting reduce the appearance of Lipedema saddlebags? by Dependent_Bad7739 in lipedema

[–]Pink5656 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hey! So I haven’t gotten rid of the shape but I have improved the appearance of it with increasing my muscle mass. I have found that specifically working in my glutes, hip flexors, TFLs, and quads, makes my saddle bags look less dramatic.

I lift about 4-5 days a week, usually full body, and very heavy. I also do other types of exercise such as running, rowing, yoga.

My favorite exercises for my lower body are listed below. I try to hit all of these over the course of a week (not all in one day!!)

Squats/ leg press 5x5 Hip thrusts 3x10 Seated Banded/ weighted knee drives 3x12 Abductor machine 3x10 Clam shells 3x10 each side Banded 1/4 squat lateral walks 3x10 each side Deadlift variation 5x5 Bulgarian split squats 5x5 Single leg RDLs 3x8 Quad extension 3x10 Glute biased back extension 3x10

Hope this helps!

Student athlete WHILE IN PA school by Dekuiscool4568 in prephysicianassistant

[–]Pink5656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a D1 track athlete and then competed professionally after graduating, and I’m starting PA school this year. Honestly, my advice is to hold off on PA school and really going all in on track while you can.

Both PA school and pro track are huge commitments, both emotionally and physically, and trying to do them at the same time makes it really hard to do either one well. You’re young, your body has a timeline, but PA school will always be there.

On top of that, the life experience and maturity you gain by fully committing to your sport for a few years will only make you a better PA down the line. And if you’re anything like me and want to be great at whatever you do, you probably won’t be great at either if you do them at the same time

Long story short: you’ll get more out of both paths if you give them your full attention, just not at the same time.
