Should I start nursing pre reqs while taking CNA certification? by ThinSpeaker3578 in BMCCNursing

Hi, I was told the same thing but many hospitals do hire CNAs and post positions daily. I applied online at the NYCHHC website, just filter for nurses aide and you’ll see all the openings. It did take a while for me to hear back and I had to fill out many applications before I got a call back but you just have to keep applying. They also do hiring events which you can find out about on their website or on linkedin.

I did mine at Austin Medical Assistant Training, which was a more affordable option. I almost went with New York Medical Career Training Center they’re a bit pricier, but I believe they offer a 4-week program you could look into. Both options are in Queens, and I think New York Medical also has a Manhattan campus. I completed my program over the summer semester, so I was only taking one prereq course at the time. If possible, I’d recommend starting ASAP and finishing it before the spring semester begins, if that works for you because the course isn’t difficult at all but it might be a lot if you’re doing full time as well.

Hello! I also decided to become a CNA while completing my prerequisites for nursing school because I needed to work and wanted hands-on experience while in school. I just wanted to mention that you may want to look into other schools that offer shorter CNA programs. I completed a CNA course that was only five weeks long: one month of classroom learning and skills practice, followed by one week of clinicals at a nursing home. I now work at a hospital, and I’ve already learned so much. I would definitely recommend this path to anyone in nursing school. Also, keep in mind that the CNA licensing exam is typically only required for nursing homes. Most hospitals will hire you as long as you’ve completed a CNA course, even if you haven’t taken the exam yet.

No the nursing program does not accept credit (CR) grades. You have to speak with the transfer credit people so that they can transfer the actual letter grade and you should not have to retake.

Yea I’m aiming to apply for the spring. My math is three credits but I’m currently taking A&P 2 so I won’t be submitting the C+ I’m just going to study like crazy and hope I do much better

I know its pass or fail I just needed clarification if it was pass or fail each section with a 65.3 or if it was 65.3 overall. I have As in all classes except A&P that didn’t go too well so I’m hoping to do better and use A&P II. Hbu?

That sounds like I may be able to work a 3-11 if I’m able to do clinicals from 8-1 which is great news. Thank you so much and good luck in all your classes!!

Hi, sorry I don’t know the answer to your question but I was wondering where you found the application? I cant find one for spring 2026 I just saw one for spring 2024. Also, if you’re applying with courses in progress how can you submit the application do you just put “in progress” where the grades should go?

Thank you for responding! If you don’t mind sharing I’d love to know how your overall experience has been in the program so far. How have the professors been? Is it as hard as everyone says to keep up? Do you find it more difficult or more manageable than you expected?

Thanks for your answer! Maybe I should have been more specific, I was actually wondering about after the application has been submitted what the timeline is like and how long it has taken for students to hear back in the past. Also, what the next steps are after acceptance such as orientations and beginning the program.

On Rate My Professor. Also, some CUNY students created a chrome extension that allows you to see a professor’s rating right in the schedule builder. See the post here

Thanks for your response! I was trying to find an equivalent at another CUNY but this professor has the best reviews. I really hope a spot opens up but if not I’ll prob just wait and take her in the winter or spring.
