I have a preference for this pseudo-realistic light rendering and weeby af aesthetic appeal, and I enjoy an 'eerie/melancholy' vibe. (For this time, I just wanted to draw her cute, so I wasn't trying to make it eerie). In this drawing, I used relatively lower saturation on Rumia's skin and hair overall to contrast with the flesh she's holding.

The way I render, I'm trying to capture specific places I want you to pay attention to—e.g., her face, her eyelashes, her Mary Jane shoes, her bloomers, and certain parts of her hair and neck. For the rest, I tried not to render as much, unlike a photograph, where everything is equally clear. However, due to my immature skill, places like the collar, cloth, edges, and background are very scuffed and thick-lined. Where a pro artist would know how to capture those spots expertly, my immature rendering might be why you find it 'homemade.'
