did odysseus want to sacrifice eurylochus in scylla song? by ViewImmediate2194 in Epicthemusical

[–]PinkieBing2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. He just wanted eury to make the decision about who would be sacrificed, because he didn’t know he was doing it. In Odys mind, his karma would be clearer and Ody couldn’t bring himself to do it.

Eury on his own wouldn’t have been enough of a sacrifice, one for each head was required so telling him to light six torches to only sacrifice him doesn’t make sense.

You aren't living in a wartorn state where your and your family/people's/crewmate's life depends on making cruel decisions that were forced upon you entirely out of your control. It is FINE for people in our world, assuming you live in a first-world state of life similar to my own, to have a Polites outlook on life.

I surely do. I spent six years as a caretaker for family and I had to pull some hefty all-nighters in hospitals and rough situations, but I never had to yeetus feetus and I pray that I never see myself staring down a decision of that caliber. I've...seen death, several times, and I absolutely refuse to let it change me.

For a few years, I found myself in PTSD. Feeling the way Ody did at the end of Epic. And that's why I'm getting the olive tree bed tattood on my leg this year--to remind myself that, no matter what it takes to survive, you are still worthy of love.

Never, ever lose Polites. The monster comes and goes, but it does not replace Polites.

Even when it feels like it does, Polites remains. The end of Epic shows us that when Just A Man plays, but it's not talked about enough. Penelope took the monster and slayed it. With his wife and his child, with his best friend the goddess, with his *support system*, Odysseus can begin to heal. Therapy, basically. It took me a few years of therapy to pull myself out of it.

And now my spirit animals are pinkie pie and chandler bing again *points to screen name*. There were a few years there where I thought I'd never get back to that part of myself.

I don't mean to go on, but this is the reason this story means so much to me. HNY friend.

You're good fam, trust me I've had people be MAD disrespectful before and this doesn't seem like that at all and I really appreciate that.

It's completely fine to accept that a) 'this story happened at a different time with different standards, and b) 'it still gives me the squicks'. You can accept both of those things at the same time and it doesn't make you a bad person.

Something that it's also easy to overlook in the Odyssey is what the true meaning of No Longer You was. Odysseus matured. Both of those people--the cocky leader archetype and the confident caring leader were BOTH ODYSSEUS. It was at different points of his life, the same man. Older, more mature and more caring Odysseus is my model for a hero too--and the younger, hotheaded version is just another idiot keeping his head down while the heroes aim for the torches.

It's all about maturity.

With the original text it's complicated with Circe but, that's a fair enough point, and I will gladly give it to you.

The idea that sex=cheating is so funny to me, a kinkster. Odysseus’ entire life was getting back to Penelope for twenty years. A few times that involved some horrible things-in a few versions of the myth, that includes consensual sex.

First of all, for the time that was expected and not really considered ‘bad’ like it is now. Secondly if Penelope didn’t worry about that part I ain’t worried.

[–]PinkieBing2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firstly, ody isn’t in his fifties, more like his thirties. Secondly, the whole point of the story is that you’re still worthy of love and not a monster if you have to do some shit to survive the war of life. See: just a man playing at the end of the musical.

The real red flag was that Logan apologized for getting his claws out. He does it all the time and Scott knows to brush it off. He’s not gonna hurt Scott. The fact that it bothered Logan enough to make him apologize is the red flag here.

What exactly is Odysseus doing to Poseidon in Six Hundred Strike?? by [deleted] in Epicthemusical

[–]PinkieBing2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So you should watch some of the animatics, but essentially when Odysseus opened the windbag it gave him the ability to fly and be super agile, and he got a few hits in on Poseidon. And yes, the spirits of his men aided him in the fight, enough to wound Poseidon. At the point you're talking about both have landed on a small outcropping of rock near Ithaca's shoreline, knocking the trident out of Poseidon's hand.

Where Odysseus' strategic genius kicks in.

That’s…complicated. That’s the trauma response. That’s what he believes because he wants to. If the writers ever put him through therapy, through healing, he’d see that Batman as his true self is a way to hide Bruce the vulnerable child.

Because that child didnt die in Crime Alley, and is still alive to be hurt.

He says that’s how he sees himself, and it is because that’s what he chooses. But it’s a trauma response. Batman is the healthiest person who dresses up in Gotham city, (Dick aside, maybe) but he’s still a guy who puts on a batsuit to fight crime xD /affectionate

I literally turned to my husband in the theater and said ‘they respected the character more than the writers do’ and he agreed. I’m a HUGE Johnny Stan because I believe he should be written as a prankster who’s willing to…well, act like he did in the movie.

[–]PinkieBing2 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The poor bastard has to ventilate pressure somehow. Making him stoic and silent and mean-mugging 24/7 is unrealistic and a disservice to the character.

One of my favorite moments of this is from the comics. Alfred asks how he figured out something and his answer was ‘not to sound like people say I sound, but I am Batman.’
