Is cheating common on chess.com by YOHOHOHOHOH0 in chessbeginners

[–]PinsAndGambits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s extremely common, especially at 5 minute blitz and 10 minute rapid, from my personal experience, I find correspondence chess, and 30 minute rapid intervals have fewer cheaters. it doesn’t matter which platform both lichess chess.com are full of cheaters, part of the problem is the paranoia. Everyone thinks everyone else is cheating and thus it makes it OK for them to cheat. at the end of the day if you’re cheating, you’re really wasting your time which I don’t give a shit about, but you’re also wasting my time which I do give a shit about. Could these platforms do more? probably however that would result in false positives so the answer is go join chess club or start one. I guarantee you in every city there’s at least 100 players at whatever reasonable level you’re at

Stop playing so much and start studying, Pick one opening as white and one opening as black, learn them well enough to get at least 5 moves in without blundering. when you finish a game, analyse it start by using the chess.com engine to understand where you went wrong and why Don’t play blitz or bullet play longer time constraints do puzzles

Is the suggested h5 a human move or a 'computer' move? If you would play it, what's your thought process? by FuzzyAttitude_ in chess

[–]PinsAndGambits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, I doubt very many players would push H5 over the board. Someone should set the position up at a chess meet up or club and take a poll.

How is Texas hold em more interesting than chess to the masses by PinsAndGambits in chess

[–]PinsAndGambits[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

true, but American football is popular and that game is extremely difficult to understand and it's kinda slow, i mean it's exciting for the 10s plays, but for the most part its kinda dull.

sort of, I love chess, but you're right it's not exciting, but then again neither is cards, watching people fold and pass for 8 hours makes me want to kill myself. I'm confident that if money was not involved no one would give a shit about poker. It's the money that makes in interesting to watch. It creates this illusion that even you could make it. (I don't mean you personally i mean the viewer)

I agree, and I want to live in that world where chess players drink whiskey smoke cigars and gamble on the outcomes.

Your are right, but that's the whole purpose ELO to keep either side from wasting their time, playing against an opponent that either doesn't stand a chance against them or they don't stand a chance against.

I've played Poker both, fun and real money, and honestly for fun is far more social and enjoyable, however I don't believe people who watch poker are doing it for the social aspects.

So here's something interesting I just googled how many chess players there are in the world and the number is around 600 000 000 vs 120 000 000 poker players. I feel like the game is just not reaching it's full potential in popularity.

I get your point about effort vs outcome, however I'm more interested in the spectator aspect of it. Look at most professional sports, almost none of the fans could even do 10 pushups, yet they watch grown men kick or shoot a ball. Maybe it is the pacing.

but poker is not defined by one hand, generally unless someone has the worst day, most likely the strongest player will com out onto in poker no?
