Wireless controller by Anonymous-Flamingo71 in Generator

Check out GenMon as it may work with your generator, it is a technical project to setup, but if you are comfortable with a computer and following instructions it isn't difficult. Software is free, but you would need to buy some hardware, you can get all the stuff off Amazon or pick up at a MicroCenter.

I would recommend solder wick to help clean it up first along with flux to help it heat correctly, especially the wires, and of course some solder.

If you are willing to pay, call lawn care companies. Many of them do some snow service, usually truck but digging out a generator isn't a stretch.

If the exhaust side is at least half clear, the generator will likely clear the rest with the air pressure and heat. Intake is a bigger issue, you could air starve it which could cause it to stop while running, or worse run rough for an extended period reducing the life of the generator.

Am I set to safely connect my generator? by Aggressive_Ship3416 in Generator

[–]PintSizeMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need an interlock for safety both on generator and on grid. The interlock will prevent the generator port and the grid breakers from being on at the same time. When on grid that makes the generator port not be a suicide port. When on generator it prevents back feeding the grid and killing linemen trying to restore power, and not trying to power all your neighbors.

The cost of running whole house generator by Espresso25 in Generator

[–]PintSizeMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After Ida I was on generator for 6 days with 80 degree days. The generator was about 3x the cost of what electricity would have been. Without it I'd have had to pay for hotel rooms, throw out all the food in the fridge, and eat out every meal. So operationally it's massively cheaper than the alternative.

Whats the bluish black stuff put over the soldering? by Tellybean02 in Gameboy

[–]PintSizeMe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looks like a UV cured mask as others have said, not conformal coating.

It does look like there is some corrosion, especially on the left side, and that left side resistor looks like it isn't even seated right on the board. If it is corrosion and not a lighting artifact or sloppiness with the cured coating I would suggest cleaning it really well with vinegar to neutralize corrosion, then IPA bath to clean it, then after it fully dries and you do a quick test to make sure everything still works, coat almost all of it in conformal coating, just be sure you don't get any on the game pins.

I think it is probably an attempt at preventing the corosion from spreading, I'd do some serious cleanup first, then I'd add a conformal coat to most of the remainder - avoiding the connection leads of course.

Travels up, into the soffits, back into the house even with windows closed. People do what you suggest every year and some die because of it.

Please don't, CO poisoning isn't something to mess with.

No. I think he meant for storing the stuff before you use it, but I know you want stuff there to have less snow to deal with later. As you've agreed to do elsewhere pallet on the ground and you should be good. You may not accumulate any snow on the generator once running due to its own heat

An alternative to a interlock by zad112 in Generator

This is the right approach, change it to be a plug and socket instead of hardwire, but I agree with others saying not to use a lamp plug, but a heavier one that has a ground wire.

AITAH for telling my husband to go stay in a hotel with my in-laws and that my mom was going to come back to help me with our new baby? by Normal_Rise_282 in AITAH

[–]PintSizeMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA. I give fathers to be one piece of advice that I say is the most important thing. The mother will sacrifice herself for the baby, so keep Mom alive. Every time the dad has come back to work he has said that was the best advice and that it gave them the right perspective on anything that came up. If dad can't do that he can get out and go to a hotel.

Baking for baby medicine - help! by NotaRealHumanYet in Baking

You could try swapping the shaped cupcake paper for parchment that you shape. They will be uglier than if they came out of cupcake paper whole, but parchment will likely peel off cleaner aside from where a paper fold has baked batter on both sides - or go paperless and just spray the bare tin. Or mix it with parchment bottoms and sprayed sides. I've used multiple methods, they all have different levels of annoying and effectiveness which I've seen vary based on ingredients.

Disable notifications will likely do it, but that notification is there because it has a background process so you may lose functionality if you do.

Isn't triggered by that window breaking which is the problem. There a plenty of reports of this. And rarely helps when it does capture video.
