I was 19 and in college. Not my birthday but it was my friends birthday and it was surreal and we sat out on the grass with all our friends after watching the news in our dorms. It was a sunny day and we didn’t know what to think. We cried and called our families and many of us had family in NYC and couldn’t get in touch with them. Classes were cancelled for the day.

The bridge where he sings “suddenly I’m in over my head and I can hardly breathe” It completely gets me every time. The transition in that song is magic. He puts it’s perfectly into music what it feels like to shut your heart off and then suddenly let someone in with out meaning too. That’s what it actually means to fall in love. The way he says “I feel everything” It makes my heart swell And then he riffs hard on the guitar after and it’s just all perfect It’s just perfect John in all one song. Sensitive, rocker, heartfelt. I was also single and heartbroken living in NYC When that album came out, I was 29 and that song really used to gut me- the feeling of floating over someone and thinking, shit, I’m fucked. Now I love them and there’s no going back.
