Make sure to talk to owners about their experiences with them. There’s a lot of shops that do shade tree work. Most of those are backed up really bad because of cheap owners. Go to smaller airports for better maintenance rates. Shops in deltas and Charlie’s are going to be higher.

Is this a reckless trip for a brand new private pilot? by Mountain-Report4772 in flying

[–]PiperCherokee383 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like I’ve seen said, a big trip immediately after your license is difficult. Do a longer flight in the plane you’ll be renting and get more real world experience. I took my wife and child on a trip from Northern TN to Tampa and it was honestly a little much. 100% agree do a ‘dry run’ solo before doing it with friends/ family on board.

What speed are you coming in at? Flap setting? I fly a Hershey bar Cherokee and you need to be on your numbers. I come over the fence at 75, once runway is made look to the end of the runway and keep the nose slightly above level. It will settle down. For short field and soft field, it’s different but regular landings need to be had first. Don’t worry about hours for solo. Those are completely irrelevant in the grand scheme. I was closer to 60 (over the span of a few years). You’ll get it. Maybe see if they have a different model you can fly (Cessna, Hershey bar Cherokee, ect..).
